Naim App (iOS) problem

Posted by: Timmo1341 on 24 March 2016

For some reason the app has decided it will not display my ZZ Top collection! Up until 3 or 4 weeks ago all was fine, then all three albums disappeared from the app. They still happily reside within the server folder of my Unitiserve, and if I rename the artist 'YY Top', reappear and play normally!

I've even tried putting a copy into the Download folder (all metadata present and correct) but to no avail - it seems that the app has decided Z no longer exists!

As a mildly afflicted OCD type, this is driving me mad and occupying far too much of my time. Can anybody please help?

The first thing to check when having such issues: Did you clear the upnp cache of the naim app?

If you rename it back from YY to ZZ, it is gone again?

Is the entry missing in all views, even when browsing by folder?

Strange. I will check at home if I have an artist starting with Z.

Hi,

I posted a very similar problem last year, when my handful of ZZ Top rips failed to appear under "Artist" at all.

I did check that they hadn't vanished into the "Unknown Artist" category on the app, but no luck.

Like you, they were viewable via the app in the correct folder, but were nowhere to be seen within the app for replay.

I didn't get any suggestions from the forum, but may well try your idea later today, and will, as a result, be able to access my "YY Top" collection.

I give up!!

Having tried everything else, to no avail, the artist is now officially 'YY Top'!! At least I can once again access the albums. It just offends my sensibilities. I'm convinced, with hindsight, that this occurred subsequent to the January app upgrade. Perhaps Naim will fix it with the next release, although I guess, as there are very artists whose title begins with Z, that it may not be a high priority.

Its been reported in the beta test section  ...........  If its on U.Serve (or HDX)  it can be fixed by going (on the Unitiserve) to Menu > System > UPnP Settings > A-Z Index Options > Index > No

Not sure if its a problem on NAS's,  I don't have ZZ albums

Is this some sort of early April Fool's joke or something?

Hi Tim,

Tried your suggested fix and it works fine.

I guess I can live with YY Top, as, at least, the music is now accessible.

I tried Gert's move, but reverting from "YY" to "ZZ" simply disappeared the albums again.

Also tried Mike-B's suggestion, but changing the index option, (on an HDX), from "yes" to "no" removed the index of tracks on all albums.

Guess we're stuck with the "YY" option for now, but it's all about the music anyway, so, rock on!

Dave.

This somehow sounds as a bug where the last entry of the artist-list is not shown. (Would be a typical +-1 failure in iterating lists.) Maybe everyone should check if he can rediscover a long time lost artist again. Just see if the artist that is the last one in the alphabet of your collection is included in the list

As I am usually using the by-folder view I maybe have never recognized this?

Interesting speculation. Perhaps changing the name of something else (anything else) to ZZZ would re-appear ZZ Top.

I just checked my own Naim app, and my ZZ Top is there and plays just fine.... Very odd.... This is on my SuperUniti, files stored on a QNAP NAS, all ripped using my HDX.

My ZZ Top albums on my uServe (Downloads) and on my QNAP nas running MinimServer all show up fine in the Naim app.  /shrug

My ZZ's turn up on the iOS app and are both original rips and in the Downloads folder.

I had an issue with one AC/DC mp3 track showing as AC, DC no matter how many times I tried to change it to AC/DC. Just one - other albums all displayed fine.

After pulling my hair out for similar obsessive reasons, I eventually tracked it down to the id3 version number of the file's metadata tag.

Not sure if that points towards a solution in this case, but figured it was worth mentioning as a potential clue.

I believe that ZZ Top have occasionally offended against current standards of political correctness (though personally I thought Legs was a pretty good single), and that Naim are censoring their material accordingly.

Dave,

Unfortunately there seem to be 2 different album artist tags i.e. "ALBUMARTIST" and "ALBUM ARTIST" so I make sure that I have both completed with the same value.

Timo

Do not manipulate to 'Rip' folder.

if you use a n-Serve app can you see the ZZ Top as part of the Artist collection? Either via iPad or laptop.

with the Naim app - sometime it helps if you re-install it .
