FLAC files being skipped

Posted by: Stephen Pritchard on 25 March 2016

Afternoon every one: I have a QNAP NAS serving some 'Qutes and a NDS.

I seem to be getting a random message saying tracked skipped.  Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks in anticipation of your comments

Need more info  .............

Qnap ?  with what media server (UPnP)  I suspect tWonkey.     If so I'm no tWonkey expert but suspect a good solution will be to install Asset.    have you tried a re-index (seems to fix a few issues)

Is it all ethernet wired   or wireless

Whereabouts  in the Cotswolds ??

Also check meta data, Wonkey uses abulm artist for listings and sometimes this Causes issues

I'm with Mike B move over to Asset on QNAP painless to do

Ah yes - incomplete picture - I'm between Bisley and Birdlip (fan of Norman and Ian ... sadly departed ...)

QNAP and Twonkey

Its a wired setup ...

I've not had much luck with Asset as I search via my folder structure on the NAS and is simpler (IMHO) on Twonkey.

I'll try a re-index whilst you all think about it ...

Twonky - please disable it.

I suggest you upload Minimserver onto your QNAP. There are comprehensive instructions on how to do so on the Minimserver website. Minimserver will index all the files from scratch.
Just make sure that the folders where you store your music files have full access enabled.

Hi Adam

I tried to install Minim a couple of years ago on my QNAP and failed miserably - hope the instructions have improved - I'm not usually so inept!

Hi Stephen

Installed Minim on my QNAP last night (following a failure of my UnititServe SSD). I found the step-by-step manual quite OK. It took me around 10 min. to complete the installation.

One thing with a Minimserver - it's good to have your NAS operating system up to date.

Thanks Adam - I'll take another look at it.

When I looked at it last it seemed better suited to my classical collection rather than my jazz, folk and contemporary stuff.  Have things changed?

Minim works perfectly well with everything. It even has the facility to list The Smiths as Smiths, The without changing the metadata. What more could one want?

Well that was simpler than last time ...

Will listen in-between the cricket ...

Hi Stephen,

I, too, suffered with the problem of Skipped tracks until another forum member suggested a solution ... being only semi-IT literate it took me a while to understand but if this is your setup then this could be solution.

My setup: QNAP NAS using AssetNAS (for a large collection) - Ethernet wired.

I had the connection from the NAS to the Virgin (Modem) Router to the NDX but was advised that the connections should be via a switch, leaving the Router out of the setup.  I had thought that a switch would be a slave to the router and hence using the Router as the connection better, but this is not so.

Since moving the Ethernet connections away from the router so that the setup is now NAS - switch - NDX I have had no more Skipped files - Result!

As for server, I understand that Minimserver has its fans but I've struggled to get on with it and use it only rarely.  I find AssetNAS very good though it does have a few quirks and failings which I keep meaning to investigate, once I've done a few other music database tasks

Interesting Mitch

I did away with the BT Hub and invested in a Netgear router.

From the start I had a switch system from the router (Wall-router-switch- and Wall-router-switch-NAS).

I've had trouble with Asset, preferring Twonky, but the Minim interface seems solid now - time will tell
