Burndy confusion!

Posted by: Claus-Thoegersen on 28 March 2016

Until a few days ago I thought I new the 2 different burndy models for the current Naim ps's. The old gray model, and a black model not that new either, but the black should be much better than the grey one! But now people are talking about the SXPS Burndy being different from the black burndy. I wonder if I have the sxps model, with a burndy that is about 8 years old.

Hi Claus,

Your Burndy should have a white collar towards one end of the cable. The "old" one I had just had XPS on it - I have just purchased an SXPS (Which has SXPS on the white collar) and the difference in sound is quite amazing. Both cables are black and look identical (to me) apart from the different text on the white collars around the black cable itself.

I don't know when the SXPS was released - I'm sure other members can help there.

The SXPS Burndy has been around for ages. Just gave look at the little collar and see what's written on it.

I got one of the first S-XPS Burndies around 2004-2005 I think.

The S-XPS Burndy is clearly labelled as such on the banded collar. It has been current for over 10 years now.

I hsuddenly have a doubt and Just want to make sure:

I understand this "balck S-XPS" thing is about the interconnects between PS and CDP or NDS or DAC.

Does this also apply to the interconnects between PS and preamp (NAC 552)?

And the 2 interconnects between PS and NAP 500?

Is this something I need to look into tonight to check them all?

Thanks

No, it's just the XPS Burndy.

Dear Richard,

Many thanks. One less thing to worry about!

Anyone have any opinions/thoughts regarding upgrade from black XPS Burndy to SXPS Burndy for CDX/XPS combination in terms of cost effectiveness?

Posted on: 30 March 2016 by hungryhalibut

When I had a CDS2 and XPS I swapped to an SXPS Burndy and thought it was well worthwhile, but bear in mind that the SXPS was used and therefore a little over half the price of a new one.  You'd do a lot better swapping the CDX for a CDS2, for a similar cost as a new Burndy.

Thanks - longer term I've got my eye on a CDS2 or 3, taking into account the CDX laser/transport obsolescence issues.
