My Naim MuSo, the bass sound is so distorted, am beginning to wish I had never bought it.

Got my unit just after Christmas, it was I thought an awesome piece of kit, but now a few months down the line I'm thinking what have I bought here. The bass distortion is really getting to me now, to the stage that I am listening to my music and getting no enjoyment whatsoever, I am  just  waiting for the next track with this terrible distortion to kick in and believe me there are many.  I have the majority of my music on an external hard drive and have had no trouble whatsoever with any of my music in the past, even the small cheap Sony unit I have hooked up to my computer gave me no reason to despair. But my MuSo has really thrown a big question mark over my enjoyment of listening  to music on my particular unit.

Easter Saturday was the point that I have had to admit defeat and seek some advice before I take my complaint further. There I was, with some friends around and I'm showing off my MuSo, everyone did say to begin with that it looks brilliant and the sound when it is down low is excellent, but as soon as you go above say 40% of capacity, the bass distortion kicks in and obviously the higher you go the worse it gets. It got to the stage Saturday night, when I said enough is enough and went back to my old trusted cd amp and speakers. At present I can honestly say, I don't think further sales will be forthcoming from my friends and family, and again, that will certainly be a guarantee  if this issue I have cannot be rectified in some way.

Members help here would be very much appreciated, is there anybody with any information that I may have overlooked that may sort out the bass distortion problem that has brought my enjoyment of this unit to an abrupt end.

Thanks in advance David.

It has a fault, possibly a defective speaker cone. I would take it back and get a new muso. My one is thrashed by my son with gangsta rap all the time and there in no distortion.

Your Muso's definitely faulty. Mine will go very loud without strain or distortion. Get it replaced.

Where is your Muso located? If it's close to a wall, tucked into an alcove, for example, that may be affecting the bass performance. Also, is it on a solid surface? Sitting it on a non-rigid, resonant cabinet might not be helping. Have you experimented with room positioning, even just moving it to different temporary positions to see what effect that has? If none of that helps, maybe it's a faulty unit.

Agree, a MuSo will go very loud without any distortion. Your unit, Southger, is faulty. Mine is sat on a very resonant unit in the kitchen and does not suffer.

You should take it back to the retailer and get it it fixed, or preferably exchanged, under warranty. My little Qb goes really, really, loud without any distortion.

Have you spoken to your supplying dealer about the problem?  It's under warranty so if it has developed a fault then they can arrange to get it sorted out for you ASAP.

I've got my muso in an enclosed bookcase (obviously with the front clear) and it still sounds great - even at very high volume. I think there is definitely something wrong with your unit - hopefully you can get it switched out and you'll be very happy with your purchase.

Unless the music itself is distorted (which does not seem to be the case) you have a faulty unit. We have two MuSos and they both go very loud while staying clean and clear at all frequencies. It was one of the characteristics we liked about the Muso - the ability to handle loud material without going hard or breaking up.

It is unfortunate that yours has developed a fault but on the plus side, Naim won't leave you hanging. You've chosen the right company for after sales service.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I will get on to the retailer and hopefully get this issue resolved.
