"No rooms found"
Posted by: David O'Higgins on 01 April 2016
Naim app is all of a sudden not finding my NDS. Have tried everything obvious, incl. powering/down/up NDS, iPad, etc. NDS is showing on the network. Deleted and reinstalled Naim app, tried IPhone as alternative to iPad. Nothing. Any (helpful) suggestions?
Sometimes if a phone or tablet can't see a Naim streamer but the Naim streamer is working otherwise properly, it's because the phone/tablet is on a different wifi network to the streamer. It needs to be on the same wifi network. Is there any possibility this is the problem?

I do not think so . I have a dual band router, but the list of devices in the router software shows all are working on the 2.4 GHz band., and the network settings in the Qute and the wifi on the N7 both show 2.4 GHz
My policy has always been to get things working, then leave well alone. The puzzle is why the change since I did not (knowingly) change any settings since yesterday when everything was working well?
I'm not sure that this will help, but when II had an ND5XS it used to do what sounds like the same quite regularly (maybe about weekly) and the only certain cure seemed to be re-booting both the NAS and the ND5XS. Never happened during a listening session, just when wanting to start. The router didb'r seem to be implicated. NAS was a Zyxel NSA325 running Logitech media server. I put it doen to maybe a buffer in either NAS or ND5XS getting saturated, however it ceased after I changed the NAS for a Mac Mini running Serviio uPNP player, so NAS seemed the more likely culprit, perhaps causing a handshake issue.

But neither of the last two posts can explain this problem because the OP should be able to see the UQ in his Android app even if there is no NAS or upnp server at all. I'm thinking.....

If the Qute is anywhere near the router, then I would temporarily connect it using an Ethernet cable and see whether the Android app can now see it.

Thank you all for the many excellent suggestions.
The solution turned output to be something I thought had tried earlier today - a reboot of the system. The difference this time I rebooted the whole system. I turned off (not a soft shutdown) every device that could use the network, whether it had any relation to the Qute/Naim app or not. I unplugged my two Chromecasts and powered off the Nexus7 and my old Ipad. I also unplugged the NAS, my PC and the Qute. I left the router unplugged for about 15 minutes before powering it up again (last time I only left it about 15 secs.). I rebooted in the order Router, PC, NAS, Qute, Nexus 7. And then the Naim app was able to find rooms again! I have given this detail in case someone else should come up against the same problem.
Finding a solution without identifying a cause always makes me nervous. I just hope I get music from the Qute tomorrow morning!
Very good!
It sounds like there was some sort of networking glitch which you solved by making everything start from scratch. I will keep my fingers crossed for you overnight!

I have had problems with this ever since the last unitilite firmware update. I have to turn off my Unitilite almost every time before the app will recognise any of my rooms. Once that has been done, all three devices are instantly recognised and the app works fine. I thought of downgrading the firmware again, but it would be better if NAIM could manage to update either or both of the firmware and the app. My dealers here have tried without success to remedy the situation. I am connected using DHCP. The Unitilite is connected via Ethernet and the Muso and Muso QB wirelessly. Everything was working extremely well until this update of the firmware ( and the app about the same time....).

What router set up are you using ??
Its been advised many time before, including this thread, but have you carried out a complete system power-down & restart. The system can have some old/confusing/conflicting links & a systematic system power cycle will purge that possibility.
Shut down everything on the network – network player(s), NAS, switch, control device (iPad/Pod, Android) TV, phone etc ... & the router, leave the router off for 10 minutes - this allows time for the ISP to recognise that the router has gone offline.
Restart the system in the following order: Wireless router - let it complete its start process & then start the LAN switch (if fitted)
NAS - let it complete its full start process
Network player - the Network player should find the network with the front panel buttons.
Control Device – it might be an idea to reset or even delete & re-install the app as part of this process.
Thanks for your input David. Although the cause may be different (I do not have a UnitiLite) the symptoms with my Qute and Android app seem similar.
I had hoped that my problem would have been solved on Monday morning, but it was not. After a reboot of the router the Qute found a room, but it was the Lite, which I had trialed several weeks ago, and had returned to the dealer! I deleted the cache and all data associated with the Naim app on the tablet which I hope will solve this. I also contacted my internet service provider who agreed that there may be a problem with the router, and suggested I replace it, which I did. By yesterday afternoon everything was working fine. I left the Qute overnight set to an unused input and with the output muted. This morning I had to turn the Qute off and on again to restore normal operation. One thing really puzzles me. The App and Qute work if I mute the output and select a unused input close the cover on the tablet, then open the cover a few minutes later. Why does the same not apply if I leave it overnight?
I have borrowed 100ft of Ethernet cable so I can try making a direct connection to the router. Your Lite is connected by Ethernet, so I am not optimistic that this will solve my problem.
One more thing I noticed which may or may be not normal. After opening the tablet cover the input selection screen appears for a second or so after which the app looks for a room, (which it may or may not find). Sometimes I get the message that another app is connected, try again? There is of course no other app and trying again seems to work. I do have' stay connected' checked in the other settings menu. I would have expected that the app would not need to look for a room. I wonder if the same happens with the iOS app?

The process you describe is exactly what I did on Sunday. I did uninstall /reinstall the Naim app. I was so sure this would work solve the problem and was very disappointed to find on Monday morning that it did not!

I would suggest unchecking "stay connected". You shouldn't need it to stay connected and that could be giving rise to some confusion between the Qute and the app (I use IOS but never found it necessary to check that setting).

OK magica, sorry it did not work out, but don't dis the system power cycle as its a useful tool to have in the box to clean out a possible confusion & start again. I've had a bad wifi router in the last few weeks & it lost network discovery a few times & although a restart would restore the Naim app room finding feature most times, viewing the routers view of the connected network was not the actual connected network, it had links installed in all the wrong ports. A complete power cycle re-wrote the network links (for a while & until the bad router was replaced) Maybe worth examining your wifi router, & why I asked the same question of David Adlam
This morning I left the system in its 'overnight' state for a couple of hours. When I opened the tablet the Qute came straight back to the input selection screen. I have now unchecked the "stay connected" option. I have not done a complete system power cycle since installing the new router but I will do this later.
Stay Connected means the app does not go to sleep when playing an album or long play list or when playing (unchanged) iRadio. It uses a bit more battery, but its insignificant & more convenient with it enabled IMO
Harty601 posted:That's interesting - I have to say, up until about 2-3 weeks ago my set up was bullet proof. Both my 272 & muso always showed up on the Naim app and the app was very stable.
Since then, I'm constantly losing connection with the naim kit (on the naim) app and often while browsing my albums the albums disappear and I get a blank screen with a spinning circle.
I had put it down to the Netflix issue, but concerning if you're having issues and Netflix is not being used. Just to double check - is anyone using the Netflix app in your house?
That's the thing with computer based products... just when you think you've achieved 'bullet proof' status... Murphey's law takes hold.
