Mechanism protector in the CDS3 package

Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 04 April 2016

Morning,

I remember having seen here, a few years ago, a pic posted of a square something that was placed inside the laser compartment of a CDS3 to protect the mechanism during transport. I have never seen it in a shipped CDS3 but it would be useful to have something like that just in case. Since these are not available anymore at Naim, I would make something like that myself, so is anyone able to retrieve that picture please? I have done some research with the search button but couldn't find it.

Thanks

Max

Max,

What are you doing to me?

I've just shipped my CDS3 back to Naim, via my dealer, with six transit bolts fitted. Two in the CD bay, four underneath. The puck was removed and packed separately so it couldn't be shaken loose.

How do you manage to create anxiety where none existed before?!

Best, C.

Chris,

my CDS3 – and Andrea's, for that – has safely arrived in Italy without that piece of plastic. Mine was only a scruple, just in case. That extra protection is perhaps not even necessary, but having seen it in an image once, I thought about it.

Regarding anxiety, you have a CD player that used to cost €8500 without any PSU, and whose owner is factory alerted that its mechanics could start dying after ten years or so when the world is crammed with 25/30 years old CD players from Philips and Marantz that still read discs like lightning and cost 50 to 100 €, and you accuse me of creating anxiety?

;-))

Max

P.S. Best wishes with your rejuvenated piece of antique...

Max, IIRC from my own CDS3, now sadly departed, it was just the transit bolts below for the boards and the thinner bolts within the tray to lift the tray off the leaf springs.

Thr CD3 though had a plastic honeycomb tongue piece that protected the sprung mech. Perhaps this is what you are thinking of?

Hi Richard,

yes, it's probably that, only I was sure it belonged to the CDS3's accessories... Thanks.

This will tranquillise Chris!
