nac82 output from a source (e.g. CD or Tuner) to Tape,VCR or Aux connection

Trying and failing to switch/connect the output of an NDX5-XS via an input connection (typically the "Tuner" input ) on my nac82 Preamplifier (circa 1999 issue) to a record output connection (typically such as CD,VCR and Aux on Outputs 4,5 and 6 respectively) to which I am connecting a headphone amp .

As per the Owners Manual I depress the "record button" on the source (CD or Tuner) device. The depressed button's lamp glows dimly and there is no effect when also depressing the "record button" on the selected output device connection (Tape, VCR or Aux) to record, ie the output device button does not glow nor is there a discernible output to the headphone amp).

Connecting the NDX5-XS using the same cable directly to headphone amp works fine (so the cable is presumably correctly configured). The cable consists of the Naim plug wired as per the diagram for nac82Outputs 4, 5 and 6 in the Owners Manual and terminates in two phono plugs for connecting to the headphone amp.

I have checked that the Record-Lock is not switched on and that the Mute button is off.

Query : am I operating the nac82 Preamplifier incorrectly, does my nac82 have a switch problem or could there be some form of incompatibility problem?

Any advice on this would be very welcome  !

Hi Peter, just loooked at my spare leads that I used to do much the same thing with, the lead is a Chord 5 pin locking din to 4 RCA plugs the plugs are coloured red/black and yellow/blue when I used my Project headphone amp I believe it was the yellow and blue that supplied the output.

I also have a Naim lead terminated by my dealer at the time and the colour coding is the same trust this helps.

If it's fine going straight from the DIN5 of a source then it's wrong for taking from the REC OUT on the pre-amp (As currently configured it's wired to TAPE IN).  You need to re-wire the DIN plug or else use a DIN-RCAx4 tape patch lead.
