I have the Naim CD5i and I discovered that some of the plastic that holds the CD in place has come away, It came off yesterday when I took the magnet off to place a CD onto the Drawer. I should say the player runs fine and still sounds as beautiful as the day I bought it (if not more beautiful now), although I am worried that I could be causing further damage by playing it, so I haven't played any more since I discovered the problem.

Should I get this repaired?
Thanks in Advance,

I would most certainly get a new laser mechanism fitted. You wouldn't want more bits of what's left of yours flying off and into your machine while a disc is playing.
I had a new laser fitted to my CD5i around 18 months ago....wasn't too expensive.

Why would I want to get a new laser fitted? Mine works fine.

IIRC the replacement mech and laser I had fitted to mine included the bit that is broken on yours.
Apologies for trying to be helpful.... I won't bother again.

Well, quite. On both counts.

Sorry I just thought that you thought my laser wasn't working. I appreciate the help, but do I really need the whole thing replacing? I thought I could just replace the damaged section.

The damage is part of the mechanism which includes the laser. The good news is that Naim can service and repair your CDP so you don't have to bin it.

I suggest you ring Naim support and tell them that you have posted these photos. They will look and advise you what needs to happen (but if it still plays fine then personally I wouldn't worry about it).
best
David

how old is your CD player.
Have a look at this. Under certain circumstances you have a some protection from defective goods for 6 years.
