Just wondering  how they compare sound wise, thinking of selling Uniti2   and going back to olive, will be partnering a LP12

You will loose the streaming ability... I wouldn't do it.

Depends if he uses the streamer section. If you do Mr Flange then you could get a small stand alone streamer like the AURALiC Aries Mini (fit an internal HDD/SSD and you have no need for a PC/Mac/NAS) or BlueSound Node2 which will fulfil all digital/internet requirements without being tied to Naim's slow progress with keeping up with change.

Have you owned a Nait 2 before? Has some limitations but as long as you don't ask it to rattle the windows, it is a very musical, sweet sounding amp. Once heard, not easy to forget.

I have a CB Nait 2, Rega RP6, Rega Apollo R and Aries Mini and am very satisfied with the simplicity of the system and quality of the sound.

Neil, just curious, why did you choose the Aries over a Naim streaming unit?

Hi Yetizone

Had a UQ2 being fed with a Mac Mini. It was a nice set up but I was getting increasingly annoyed at the slow progress Naim was making to adopt new technology/services and the outdated firmware update method. The Aries Mini offered all the streaming services (red book and higher when available and the low res via AirPlay) and an internal HDD/SSD for storing my music all in one little box. That and a desire to return to the Nait 2.

AURALiC are a small company that really listens to its customers and tries to do right by them. Lightning DS (iPad/iPhone control) has had numerous updates and is now very good. Firmware updates are automatic and 'over the air' which is how it should be. Sure there have been some small glitches but these have been quickly sorted. I've been impressed. Oh, and it sounds really good as well (I have an external LPS which is required IMO).

Hi Neil,

Ah, I see. Interesting. I have read some positive reviews of the Aries equipment and wondered how it would compare with Naim’s streamers. I recently had a demo of the UQ2 and was really impressed with the Naim streaming app and of course the sound from the UQ, especially when a power amp was added to the equation.

I still have my CB Nait2 and am wondering what to do next - add a UQ2 to the Nait as a streamer (redundancy) or swap out the Nait for the UQ2 and later add a power amp. Lots to mull over!

Apologies, MrFlange, back on topic

One last thing - I swapped and, after the initial excitement, I regretted the decision but there was very little in the way of streaming options then. Assuming you have an iSomething £650 will get you Mini, LPS and HDD. Order over the net and you have 14 days to test (check with retailer first though).

I have an original Uniti as my main set up with an LP12 and I use a Nait2 CB for my Kitchen. The Nait is lovely and I can't imagine selling it but the Uniti is brilliant for what it can do in one box. I have to say there is something special about the sound that the Uniti can produce and I find it very engaging...

Thank you for the replys, I have been told the Nait2 is only 20 watts, truthfully I dont know how loud 20 watts is,  what volume number on my uniti would I have to turn it up to give me a rough idea?

The Nait is 11w I think and I don't max out either of my systems. A reasonable (high) listening volume on the Uniti for me (streaming) is 40 or (Vinyl) 50 through my Epos ES11. The Nait2 will sing at a similar volume at 10 o'clock streaming.
