Non ripping Unitiserve

Posted by: hannoy63 on 06 April 2016

Hi all, I now have a Unitiserve that will not rip or play a cd, the unit freezes within seconds and requires a full shut down and restart. The unit is an SSD using a networked NAS as storage, I've looked at the possibility of a problem with the NAS by creating a music store on a different NAS with no joy. It's looking like another trip back to the dealer with the unit, if so it will be the last time!

I hope you have contacted Naim support?

Can you see your US via the n Serve app?

Get it fixed. Get a nas. Sell the serve. Choose life.

You can connect a display to the VGA port on the back of the US and you should then be able to see what is happening to make it hang.  If you contact Naim support, they may suggest this as part of diagnosing what the problem is.

best

If only it was that simple, 60 mile round trip to get the Uniti to the dealer, several weeks and a few hundred quid later and I might be able to sell it as was the original intention, it hasn't been used for six month now. I've got the nas and this will be the final piece of Naim to leave my possession, I'm moving on, I've chosen life.

Even "life" gets complicated.  A recent MinimServer update broke MinimServer on my nas on evening, but by the next morning (this morning actually) with the help of Simon there it was all sorted.  Required Java to be uninstalled and reinstalled, with a nas reboot after each.  Back to running as expected.

I don't disagree. Playing records was so much less complicated.

..and CDs less complicated still.

What's complicated about records and cd's is getting them back into their sleeves and back on the shelves such that I can find them when I need them.  But I digress . . .

(Part of me is rather jealous of those LP12 photos that pop up all over these fora.  And curious as to just what a nice vinyl record would sound like on my system in my room.  Fortunately, it passes rather quickly.)

Which is precisely why I've been upgrading my LP12 over the last year.

That said it's currently with the dealer to diagnose why it's only playing on one channel (once you have a Urika, modified for the Aro plug,  inside the unit it's no longer possible to do much diagnosis without taking the base off the turntable).
