Headphone amp in DAC V1 vs. Headline 2 - any experience comparing the two?

Hello,

In my office system I have a Headline 2 powered by an isupply.  I listen to music on my computer through a Dragonfly dac to my Nait 5.  I really enjoy the Headline (it replaced a Graham Slee Novo).

I am considering upgrading the Dragonfly DAC.  I'm looking at used DACS in the $800 - $1000 range (CDN).  I have seen a used DAC V1 at a good price and I wonder if I shouldn't buy it and sell off the Headline - hence my post.

Does anyone have experience comparing the headphone amp on the DAC V1 vs. the Headline 2?

Thanks!

I have no experience with the Headline but really enjoy my V1 with HD800's.  However, you might do better with one of the new Chord Mojo dac/hpa (500$?).  From a SQ perspective the Hugo beats the V1 but the overall usability of the V1 [better usb and the all important remote] keeps it on my desk for work time music.

Ian, as you already have the Headline then ideally you should try to listen to it against the DAC-V1.  Try the Headline not just from the Dragonfly DAC but also from the DAC-V1, that way you'll have a better idea where the two headphone amps stand against one another.

It's hard to compare since:

1. You have to use the same source.

2. A headline is only half a headphone amp. Depending on whether you NAPSC it or back it with a FC, HC or even SC it is essentially all different heaphone amps.

All good points.

I had not considered running the Headline from the DAC-V1 but suppose that could be done from the DIN out on the DAC-V1.  I may take the Headline to my dealer to compare (he also stocks the Chord Mojo (as Kevin suggests).

I'll report back.
