'Best' (Bearable) Drum Solo...

...If there is such a thing.
I nominate Jack de Johnette 'Nardis' on:
Any others recommendable?

There is no such thing as a bearable drum solo longer than two bars [measures for our USA readers], ...
Take Five is ruined by the drum solo. I have listened right through once, and I’ll never get those wasted munites back!
ATB from George
The Mule from Deep Purple's Made in Japan is just great, especially when played massively loud. I'm a bit of a sucker for a good drum solo. I love jazz bass solos too.
I'm with George on this one.
Cozy Powell dance with the devil

I love that. First single I ever bought, and I still have it.
Lots of short ones in this. Benny Goodman @ Carnegie Hall in 1938. Gene Krupa on the sticks.

Afraid it's just a distant memory now. Must have been in the 70's or 80's? Don't have it anymore but certainly a good memory for me
Back in the early 1980s A Certain Ratio were Factory's second biggest act after New Order. Here they are in 1981 doing their trumpet-interspersed drum solo "Back To The Start". In a municipal baths, for some reason.

Here it is. Mega.
Here's the B-side, "And Then There Was Skin", with its filthy organ sound and meaty drum breaks. Almost as good:
How about Safri duo, bongo song. Sounds mega with the loud knob turned up
That's it, off to Amazon to get some cozy
Amazon don't seem to have any cd's with dance with the devil, but they do have vinyl. Mmmm
Not really drum solos but,...
'Tonite' on Leave It To Last by Neil Stacey
'Bass and Drum Intro' on Nils Lofgren Band Live by...err...Nils Lofgren
'Sing, Sing, Sing' on Dave Grusin Presents GRP All-Star Big Band Live by...err...Dave Grusin
Surprised that no one has mentioned the mercifully short but over-exposed solo on Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight".
'Toad' by Cream and the incomparable Ginger Baker.
Or anything by The Kodo Island Drummers.
Steve Gadd with his famous brush solo......
And further....
- a lot of Buddy Rich solos are great
- Moby Dick with John Bonham
- The Mule - Ian Pace
Always enjoyed RUSH's Neil Peart's Live solos, especially with the "electronic" Big Band.
There was a single in the sixties of The Burundi Black DRummers that was popular.
Another vote for Max Roach on ‘Saxophone Colossus’ but this time for the drum breaks with Sonny Rollins at the end of ‘Stode Rode’ (at about 16:25 on this video).
I saw Max Roach towards the end of his career when his band played at Cheltenham sometime, I think, in the 1990’s, it was a wonderful concert.
Also just about ant Ed Blackwell solo with the various Ornette Coleman bands.
Thje OP said 'bearable' so I nominate this :

He also did us a great service in getting John Martyn to re-record some of his finest songs for the "No Little Boy" collection.
