Interesting article on the BBC news website re vinyl sales driving digital sales and relating to the amount of records bought by people who don't own a turntable.

I bought the box-set of "In Rainbows" that comes with CD and Vinyl versions. Vinyl has never been played. CDs, just once, to rip them.

I was given a Boxed Set of The Rolling Stones 1964 to 1969 vinyl set still in its plastic wrapper.  I do not have a TT but I still have every single LP that I have ever bought, borrowed or stolen from the past 46 years of buying and listening to music.  Call me anal (my wife calls me something that approximates to this) but I have no intention of parting with them.  They hold so many memories of people, places conversations etc.  I have managed to find CDs of all these LPs along with some that my parents had which I listened to whilst growing up.

These people are helping to keep the vinyl merchants in business for the rest of us. More power to them!

DayJay, it was a curious article.. The main driver of the original article was that streaming was driving the sale of physicals, mainly CD and vinyl, but then focussed on just the vinyl element.. perhaps more news worthy?? CDs are perhaps still too prevalent and common and not 'sexy' like owning vinyl.....

however that actual underling trend of streaming driving CD and vinyl sales is interesting and must be healthy for the recorded music industry. Perhaps the sad part of a related story was that >70% of physicals are bought online now and growing, which must be further challenging news for the independent record shop.

Sometimes I see a vinyl cover and want to buy it just for the cover!

A number of years ago I was fortunate enough to buy an LP of Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 1 in G Minor "Winter Dreams"  CS 7148  1979 performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta.  It's a Decca London ffrr recording.

What attracted me to it was the fact it was unopened.  It still is .. I didn't have the heart to open it.  (Smacks forehead).

I bought 6 albums in an old school record shop in my hometown of Burnley last month. The shop has been there some 20 years. The one across the road has been there since I was a kid. Considerably longer then. The latter did not open whilst I was nearby. I had a pleasant hour choosing and listening to records. 5 of the 6 were unopened. When I got home, I had problems  with all 6 ranging from fruit bowl shape to finishing damage. Although the shopping experience was great, I have never had any problems shipping new stuff with Amazon. Perhaps the small independents could up their game a bit.
