Is Something Wrong with Tidal ?

Posted by: Borders Nick on 14 April 2016

It dawned on me yesterday that, after being plagued by drop-outs since the word go, Tidal appears to be working almost perfectly now and has been for 2 or 3 weeks.

Nothing has changed on my system and my Internet connection is still languishing at the usual 4-5 Mbps.   So what's going on ?   Have a Tidal implemented some sort of fix at their end ?  Have I missed something ?

I know this is tempting fate to mention this - but has anyone else who had been experiencing problems finding the same improvement ?

I was never 'plagued' with dropouts compared to others, but in the last week or two I've had none at all, so yes, things are looking good.

Now I have sorted out my problem with the Netflix app causing my streamer to loose its connection (nothing to do with Tidal of course) I am back to my usual stable Tidal connection with the very, very occasional drop-out which I suspect is related to t'internet rather than Tidal. I also think the quality of the Tidal stream seems to have improved over the last couple of months but this could be my imagination.

Nigel, could you explain how you sorted out the problem with Netflix?

Yes, just go to the fairly recent thread entitled Netflix and Naim Streamer Conflict in this Streaming Audio section of the forum and it will explain all. Bottom line is you have to find ways of avoiding the use of the Netflix app of iOS devices such as iPads and iPhones as it it this app that causes all the problems causing Naim streamers to loose their connection.

I've noticed the drop outs on Tidal have disappeared completely now (don't remember the last time I had one). It also feels like SQ has improved - it may be my system bedding in but have not noticed a change in music from the NAS during the same period.
