B&W 805 D3

Posted by: ryder. on 18 April 2016

Does anybody here own the B&W 805 D3? I just happen to read about this new model although it was launched sometime last year. Apparently the long-surviving Kevlar driver had been replaced by the new Continuum driver in the all new 800-diamond series now in their 3rd generation. Is the new Continuum driver a huge departure in sound quality from the previous B&W models which are on the Kevlar?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There are a few folks who own the new B&W 804D3 and the 803D3 but I'm not sure about the 805D3.

I heard it in the showroom, and yes it is better than the D2 version

the pricing is way above afforable although it sound fantastic

with this price + stand and you could easily get 2 Harbeth SHL5+

I would go floorstander but whoops it another level of pricing

Yes, the B&W 805D3 is equivalent to two pairs of Harbeth SHL5+. I think most of the money may have gone to the workmanship, the curved cabinet and diamond tweeter. Not too sure about the new Continuum driver though.  The 805D3 may be a lot of money but somehow it looks quite exquisite if judging purely on looks alone.

What a palaver. He'd take about a week to unpack the week's shopping.

No one near me carries either. Or anything resembling decent kit for that matter. Dang.

I didn't really like either of those, they both sounded remarkably similar to the built-in speakers in my MacBook
