Mu-so v Beoplay A6

Posted by: PG on 19 April 2016

Thinking of buying a Mu-so, which I have heard briefly. Then whilst searching for similar items at that price level I came across the Beoplay A6.

Regrettably trying to find a dealer in Lincolnshire that does both is a bit unlikely. I can get to hear an A6 at a B&O dealer and Mu-so a mile away, but will have to travel a bit to do this, which I will do.

I have read reviews of both (What Hi-fi) and they give both good reviews.

Does anyone have any experience of both?

Cheers PG

About a mile apart for me, too. I heard the Qb and A6, bot for the first time, last week. Both are compelling. Of course, the Qb runs from the Naim app. Listened to the new Play5 in A/B with the Qb. All have merit, but the Qb sounded best to me -- "more musical", to chant the refrain. IMHO, Nick

As you have the 172, why not just get the mu-so. It works off the same app, and the multiroom is great, and really easy to use. We have the little Qb and it's great, so the bigger mu-so will be even better.

Thanks for the replies. HH we are moving and downsizing as well as going ultra minimal, so the 172/200 is going. Sound quality of the two is key and so whilst my partner and I like the look of the Beoplay over the Muso, I suspect the Naim will win, as I suspect Nick is right about musicality. Having said that we have a Beoplay A2, which is a fab little speaker and makes our feet tap. Auditioning soon.

I own a Beolit 12 and love it. The new Beolit is probably better. Food for thought?

Mu-so it will be.

Managed to hear both today, not side by side regrettably, but same tracks for each listen. The Mu-so seemed more refined and even overall, except the Beoplays bass was better - deeper and defined, but it wasn't enough to win us over as the treble seemed a little harsh and the sound less integrated than the Mu-so.

Also, whilst both are stylish products the Mu-so does look worth its asking price whereas the Beoplay seemed a little expensive for the quality on offer.

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to mine the Beoplay is breathtakingly ugly! In fairness Scandanavian 'style' has never particularly appealed to me - with one or two exceptions Ikea's range leaves me cold. I remember in the 60s not being able to understand the appeal of B & O music centres to the nouveau riche middle classes!!

Still, each to their own. I haven't heard the Beoplay, so wouldn't dream of criticising its sound, but could never own something that visually unappealing. My Mu-So on the other hand........!
