Speaker cable choice
Posted by: John Gorodecky on 25 April 2016
I am looking for an inexpensive speaker cable for a Superuniti and Neat Motive SX2 combination, any recommendations would be great. Thanks
Hi John
What lengths do you need? What's your budget?
My personal choice would be Tellurium Q black. Same price as NacA5 but better performance, to my ears at least.

+1 TQ Black, excellent cable
I agree, TQ Black. Though whether £50 a metre counts as inexpensive I'm not sure.

+ 2. It's easily dressed, too.

Talk speakerwire new or s/h Linn K20/Naim A4
same cable
good performance and inexpensive
To quote Jim Morrison "People are Strange". £50 per metre doesn't seem to me to qualify as inexpensive.
The SU isn't as fussy about cable specs as the power amp separates - so long as you keep to conventional cable construction and don't use high capacitance cables you'll be fine. I use Audioquest 14/4 SLiP with a Nait XS 2 with no problems at all (£5 per metre). It is well worth soldering on Naim plugs at the amp end and good 4mm plugs (e.g. Deltron) at the speaker end.
+1 for Huge's suggestion. I used Audioquest 14/4 SLiP between my UL and Neat Motive SX2s and was very happy with the performance. Only moved up to NacA5 after hearing so many good things about it and had it included as part of the deal when I upgraded to SU from UL.
Hi DWO,
Did you ever compare the AQ 14/4 to the NAC A5?
Unfortunately no I didn't. I was so keen to get the SU up and running that I just put all the new stuff in (including cables - tie wrapped as per advice of others) and got on with listening. Even out of the box I was impressed with how much better the SU was. All that said I think I still have the Audioquest cables in the house; I may just get them out and do a quick comparison - unfortunately will not be able to do it until the weekend due to work commitments.
I compared the SU with the U2, and decided it was well worth the extra money. I also compared the SU to the ND5 XS + Naiit XS 2 combination, in my case that suited my tastes a little better, but between those I think it's a matter of personal preference - the SU is certainly an impressive one box beastie!
b-lund's suggestion of Linn K20 is also well worthy of consideration.
I'm guessing £50/m isn't what the OP means by inexpensive. Fair enough if it is, but on the presumption that it's not...
I used K20 with a UQ2 and it was fine. But the second hand A5 I replaced it with was a lot better in my case.
If s/h A5 doesn't fit the bill, I'd suggest looking at Witch Hat N2. The (ex-Naim) guy behind Witch Hat insists it meets Naim's published spec for A5, and I've noticed a few people say they were pleased with it.
When auditioning my SuperUniti and ProAc d20r speakers I listened at length to both Naca5 and Chord Epic twin. My preference was for the Chord, which has provided me with much listening pleasure over the last 12 months. As others have said, I'm not sure if £50 per metre qualifies as inexpensive, but I felt it worth the outlay.
I am using Chord Epic Super Twin to bi-amp my SU and NAP 200 DR, and I really like it, although there seems to be a strong vote for TQB, which would cost about the same, £50/m. Note CEST is no longer available as Chord no longer recommend bi-wire/amp..... but if you like what you hear?
Another one for Witchat N2 comes terminated extremely good value for money.

Hi,
why not try to define inexpensive? Also, length can influence the definition (2 x 3 mt of used NAC A5 is not expensive..).
Then, I believe that if you're asking for advice here, what you're looking for is not inexpensive cable, but good cable miraculously costing little – which is a different thing. I mean, the use of inexpensive usually means that no special expectations are placed on performance; but if you ask for an opinion here, this option is automatically out of the question. So, what kind of cable did you have in mind, and in what lengths?

Hi. I have just moved to Witch hat and really like them. Really good value for money.
Atlas Hyper 2.0 or 3.0 are, in my opinion, lower cost than A5 and perform better. I have no qualms about using the Hyper 2.0 from a 250.2.
Just go for NACA5 if you want piece of mind. It's performance vs price ratio is top class.

I also use Tellurium Qblack with my SN2 and I'm very satisfied!

Using the same combo here and happy.
Depends whaqt you mean by budget - Chord Rumour works well with Naim amps.
