Richard Johnson, Champion Jockey ...

Posted by: George F on 25 April 2016

My cousin [once removed], Richard Johnson is champion Jockey at the end of his career trailing by one AP McCoy for more than a  decade.

In normal times, without the super-talent McCoy, he would have dominated horse-racing, but every half century a real genius appears. However McCoy retired in just enough time to allow my cousin his moment in the spot-light. I might even think that AP retired with charity to allow his old rival to celebrate a slightly lesser talent.

I guess we don't George,  but you might want to remove that "Blonde XXXXX"  you posted,  I was puzzled what it meant other than seeing it was German,  so I tried a translation & found it links to some porn sites.

"Blonde genug," is an old Officer POW War-time saying for, "fair enough."

Blonde = fair and genug equals, enough, or complete. Nothing to do with anything pornographic in reality!

It is a sort of play on words as blonde means fair [as in fair hair] and genug means enough as in philosophy.

Just like "Au desue de san guarre" means "below his [or her] station", but makes no sense in French!

PS: Here is Bach’s Cantata,“Ich habe genug ..."

Culturally nothing suspect in “genug” in our sense of real culture:

I never knew that, what a lovely piece of Germlish, and yes genug in German is the normal  word  for enough.. Genug ist genug.

George,

I follow the jump racing a bit and Richard Johnson is indeed a great jockey and has been runner up to AP for along time, I think he will be Champion for the next couple of years if he doesn't retire.I seem to remember he rode a great race and winner at the Cheltenham Festival this year.
