SL2 re-torque
Posted by: ken c on 26 April 2016
quick question folks: my SL2 were last torqued by a dealer in 2009. i'd like to hear from those with experience of this speaker whether its time to consider another fettle? i may decide to do this myself if i can trust myself with a torque wrench -- well, i am (not) ashamed to admit i have never used one :-)

just so we are all clear about which bit is what -- does anyone have a photo/diagram showing which bits are user adjustable torque-wise? a picture is worth etc etc...

Ken, just the bolts holding the interface plates (top box and bottom box) and the bolts holding the mid/bass driver - all at 3.6Nm.
thanks Richard -- i guess that is clear enough... :-)

Mike B ......try one of the compressed air aerosol cleaners used for blowing the dust off computer fans/graphics cards etc. You will find them available in loads of places.... Gets rid of the dust with no risk of physical damage or scratches. Can be used on grilles or speaker drivers easily.
Thks Arnsider, grills are no problem, the vac does that, but the aerosol blower is a good idea to try
Gets in all the nooks and crannies....
Aerosol spray might not be a good idea. Blow the dust into the crooks and nannies. Like using a jet wash to clean a bike and pushing crud into the bearing hub.

Yes - perhaps this would be more accurate - nooks and crannies rather than 'alcoves'.
know nothing about SL2 but.......welcome back Adam!
Is retorquing something that should also be done to SBL mk2s? if so what are the settings and how often please. Many thanks.

The bolts on the mid/bass drivers can be re-torqued. The magic figure is usually quoted as 3.6Nm, same as SL2s.

That same thought came to me after my last post, however I think I have found the answer: I'm a keen photographer & I have a device with a static charged brush that attracts dust off the delicate & sensitive internals of DSLR camera's. I needed to get new brushes so nothing to loose trying it on speaker cone with an old one. Happy to report it attracts dust remarkably well & its something for the toolbox as & when its needed. But I will keep with the mini Dyson & lint free cloth for the driver frame surrounds & the grill cloth.
another idea is a 'blower' such as the one below - i use one for misc de-dusting jobs in my office...

enjoy...

Looks like the thing can fly.......
You could fill it with warm water and use it for colonic irrigation.
