V1 Dac DSPDAC Reg18(W) Fail

Posted by: Rob R on 27 April 2016

Hi, I have a Naim V1 Dac I bought in November 13, since updating the firmware to 1.6 I am getting a "DSPDAC Reg18(W) Fail", at first it was just a couple of times, now its once a week and I have to turn the Power off and on to Clear the error. Has anyone else experienced this?

I contacted Naim yesterday and they have said its a fault and return it to the dealer without really telling me what the error is, I was wondering if it could be something with the electricity as there is currently a lot of building work in our area. Its only happened since updating the firmware also, but they said its nothing to do with that.

My hesitation of taking back to the dealer is a large bill as its probably just out of warranty

5 years warranty

the part that is failing is not very expensive to replace

there are no issues with my DAC V1 after firmware update, most probably it is the SHARC processor, again, not a very expensive part

Thanks! I hope its 5 years  my receipt doesn't say anything about the warranty so I will have my fingers crossed while I wait to hear from the dealer.

If you buy from a dealer in the UK and register the purchase with Naim, it's five years for parts and two years for labour.  But they seem to be genuinely reasonable for something that has gone wrong and isn't your fault. Compared with buying the kit in the first place, the servicing seems very cheap to me anyway.

Thanks David, I'm in Norway, minimum warranty on any electronic products here is 2 years so I'm hoping for a premium product it's longer, a lot of the hifi shops here are 6 years but the dealer for Naim doesn't state the warranty. I'm still waiting for his reply. It's not the end of the workload if I have to pay but if it needs to go back to the UK it will be pricey.

it is not a big or heavy box (compared to other Naims), I doubt it will be very pricey.

I hope Naim will give you the same 5 year UK warranty.
