SU continually going 'Offline'

Yes, I know that I will need to contact my local dealer over this, but just wondering whether I am seeing a common event or not.
Over the last month or so the US (an HDD variant) will simply put itself 'offline.' The only way to get it back on the system is to undertake a power cycle. The event generally manifests itself when trying to load a new CD and nothing happens, other than the disc loads, followed by complete silence.
The unit is switched on all the time, but gets a very easy life as it is the music library for the MuSo, which spends 99.99999% of its time tuned into R4.
My US normally sits on line and everything just works but I did have a period a few weeks back when I loaded a CD to rip it and t he US took it and did nothing. A power cycle ejected the CD but the US still sat doing nothing. This turned out to be that the Ethernet switch that it was connected to had crashed and power cycling that brought everything back until the next morning when I had to power cycle the switch again to bring everything back. So I bought a new switch and just having that unopened in its box in a cupboard was enough to frighten the old one into behaving properly ever since.
This is a long way of saying that I wonder whether there is something flaky with your network and the US is reporting that it's offline rather than putting itself off line. How is your US connected to your router? And next time it happens you could try rebooting your network or even just unplugging and replugging the ethernet connection to the US to isolate whether it is actually the US which is behaving oddly.

Thanks for the reply. None of the other (6) devices connected to the router suffer any problem. Indeed the NAS, which backs up the US and also contains internet-downloaded music does not suffer.
I hate this Microshite power cycling to cure a problem.
Hmm. How do you know it is off line? What are you monitoring it with? Eg can you see it with n-serve on an iPhone for example?

I've seen this happen before, when I had a 'loaner US' (whilst my own UnitiServe was being woken from a self-inflicted BIOS vicious circle).
Powering it up and down will not solve a problem. Assuming the rest of your network is up to scratch that is.
How is your LAN constructed? Which part of your network assigns the IP addresses (I assume you use DHCP), what switch do you have,, etc, etc?
Same problem with my new US - cd will not rip, light stays on but a power cycle is needed to get it going again. Also the iPhone app will not connect to the US. It happened after a few hours ripping and always overnight.
It's gone back to Naim and I'm waiting for news.
My understanding is that the US should still rip even if offline so I wonder if the problem is actually network related. I've had the issue both using and not using a switch.
When I had the switch problem I mentioned earlier in the thread, my US certainly wouldn't rip. It just sat there holding the disc and presumably trying to wake up the Internet connection but otherwise doing nothing obvious. Restarting the US did nothing except that the disc was ejected. Restarting the switch brought everything back.
I would certainly explore possible network issues before sending the US back to Naim. But it will be very interesting to know what Naim say to You Richard in due course.

Have you looked into the router as a possible cause?? I had a "similar" problem when my NDX would loose the NAS connection on iPad (app). It played OK from the front panel & remote control. The problem was in my haste to get my new BT Infinity router PITA setup software disabled, I also disabled WPS & that was the problem; so thinking it might be worth looking into your router settings.
Mike - I'll have a look at the router - although most of the settings are a mystery to me. Naim say that the router going down may be a problem but that isn't happening as the lights stay on and other devices stay connected. They requested I return the US - I'll report back.
This may be a network problem, but in theory, that shouldn't stop the US from ripping - that much is implicit in this extract from the manual:
"If UnitiServe is unable to access the internet while ripping, it will initially interrogate a small internal database for the CD’s associated data."

Naim have replaced the US. No indication given either to me or my dealer what the problem was.
Oh well, that was quick anyway!
