Good stuff.
Level the stands. Get the spikes as short as poss and with the nuts not touching the carpet. (If you have carpet).
Chris
Saw a used pair online with matching stands. Emotions got the best of me and I hit the buy now button. I figured I could always sell them if I don't like them.
Now the waiting begins for them to arrive.
They should better my Rega RS1's right? :-)
Yeah, they're better than a pair of RS1s. The stands (or, for the matter, the wall brackets) take it up a notch.
I think you are suddenly going to get Naim. All the more so if you have Naca5 wires and Naim's right angled banana plugs at both ends.
C.
My N sats blew a base driver so I tried some alternatives and ended up getting my N sats fixed, very happy with them on the end of a super uniti.
Enjoy
Gary
ps don't watch stuff that ends when you may have had a drink or too, bloody dangerous

I have the Naca 5 with Naim right angled banana plugs at the source end and regular banana plugs at the speaker end. Would it make sense to get them re-terminated with right angled ones in the future?
Yes, it's well worthwhile. The Sats need to to go very close to the wall, and having the cables drop down vertically makes close to the wall positioning a lot easier. Sats are lovely little speakers - I had some for about three years. I tried them on the end of a 552/300 once, and the sound they can produce is amazing.

Michael, Somehow you managed to miss 'both' in my post!
But credit to you, you have the Naim bananas at the amp end. Always amazes me the number of folk who declare their dislike of Naim speakers, when it later transpires they weren't using Naca5 with Naim right-angled bananas at both ends! Ah well.
Enjoy your new speakers when they arrive. You are in for a treat
Cheers, Chris
I saw the 'Both'. I should have phrased my question differently about how much improvement would be made adding the Naim right-angled banana's to the speaker end. Being lazy as my dealer is an hour away. HH makes a great point as well with the wall positioning. Off to the dealer I go.
Thanks for all the replies.
Yes, I suspect I saw the pair you purchased just a few days ago. That was a true steal! Congrats!
The one's with missing serial #'s ??
I did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago and am very happy - they are not against a wall but still sound better than I dared hope. I am in the process of dialling in a sub woofer which is already making my system sound better than it ever has. Previous speakers were large floorstanders (Monitor Audio GR60s).
(A sub is by no means necessary unless you like to hear reggae, Massive Atttack, and the Grateful Dead at very high volume. N-sats do have bass that is impressive for their size and will be enough on their own for many people's taste.)
Great little speakers! Well done, you'll not be disappointed. Much underestimated, which is a great shame.
The nSats rock at my house. I have always wanted an nSub but have been on the lookout for 10 years. Before long the elusive nSub will be ready for a recap. Better to stay with the obtainable and buy the nSat and an amp upgrade.

Yes. That was my main concern. We agreed on even a lower price. Plus he's sending the original receipts. They arrive Saturday. But it's definitely Caveat emptor.

Skip, what are they like downstairs on the 500 system? Do they tell you anything about the Proacs?
Chris
(Apologies Michael)

Yes, I saw those and asked the owner for an explanation- he replied ( after you had already pushed the button ) with an " I don't know" but were purchased from ProMusica-Chicago. Not sure why Ken and John would have removed the serial #'s on their demo units...![]()
You did get the stands which was a nice package ! Hope you enjoy them....I will keep looking!

I hope so to. Am a bit nervous as I wait for them.
Michael,
So how are the new Nsats working out for you?

Just playing with them now with room placement. They have similarities of my old IBL MK2's, I will be keeping these for a while.

Good to hear Michael! How far from your wall have you placed them?
varyat posted:Good to hear Michael! How far from your wall have you placed them?
Right now I have them on concrete slabs at 2.5 inches away from the wall (from the base of the stands). The top of the speaker is about 4.5 inches from the wall due to the curve in the stands. So far this is the best balance of bass and vocals. They were a little chesty right up against the wall. Will try this spot for a few weeks.
They are light years better than the Rega RS1's. ![]()
Okay, so half a foot off the wall. Did they lose much of their mojo if brought out say, 2 feet or so?
Just interested in placement possibilities for future reference... I like the RS-1's , so this is all good news!

What purpose do these serve? What are the speakers like without them?
C.
I had mine about 3.5" from the wall. Any closer makes them chesty and congested - exactly as you say - and any further out removed nearly all the bass. I added an nSub after about six months as I missed the low notes on the acoustic bass. I tried them on slabs once and found it made them too shouty, so used them spiked through the carpet onto the concrete floor from that point. They are lovely speakers and are hugely capable when adequately fed by source and amplification.

It's two fold. 1) It's thick carpet and I can't get them exactly level on the uneven floor and 2) The slabs align them with my chair, I was scrunching down because my head was above the speakers.
