Shut up and take my money (NSat's)
Posted by: Michael Mccullough on 03 May 2016
Saw a used pair online with matching stands. Emotions got the best of me and I hit the buy now button. I figured I could always sell them if I don't like them.
Now the waiting begins for them to arrive.
They should better my Rega RS1's right? :-)
When I had mine, Naim sent me some longer spikes, as used on the nSub.
Unfortunately Naim no longer have any N-sat spikes but generic 8mm ones from Ebay do the job - you can adjust the height easily as the threaded holes in the stand base go right through..
I have my N-sats about 2 foot out from the wall due to a complicated room layout. The Velodyne sub I use has room correction processing using a mike at the listening position and so I know that in my room the N-sats on their own are reasonably flat to 80hz but tail off quite sharply below that. Setting my sub's crossover to 70hz with a steep slope gives me a reasonably flat response down to 25hz (+/- 2db)
.
I think they are more like 4mm - they are certainly not 8mm.

My bad - you are right, they are actually 6mm (I've just checked my Ebay history to make sure).
Short spikes onto a concrete raft adrift on a sea of deep pile carpet, or long spikes through the carpet, onto an uneven floor, that is the question.

Are nSats going to become a bit of an investment? I might wrap mine up and put them in the loft for a rainy day!

Only after I've bought another pair.

My SL2s are finally coming next week so I'm going to have to decide wether to keep my SBLs or nSats in my second system. Will be interesting to compare them in such a basic system (Qute/Olive 250/nSub)

Seems like quite the quandary ahead of you. While the nSat/nSub combo seems obligatory it will be interesting to hear how the SBLs fare in comparison with and without the nSub. Or is it a one or both scenario for you?
I don't think I will keep both. The office system is not meant to be the last word in quality. The SBls are old friends (and a little bit tatty) so I suspect I will keep them. Just need to find the crossovers which hopefully I still have in the boxes in the loft!

Hurrah!
It took the transit of the Sun by Mercury for this to happen....and I will not actually get too excited until the delivery man appears.
Actually I am excited!
