Wobbly din sockets
Posted by: eazyryder on 03 May 2016
Picked up my new NAIT XS2 today and apart from an initial transformer chassis hum (which has now stopped). I have noticed a little play (up and down) in the din sockets at the back of the amp, is this normal?.
Yes.
Chris
PS. How does it sound?
Agreed. Totally normal and part of the design. You'll find the rca's and the power socket 'wobbly' too. Enjoy your new amp

Thank you Christopher for putting my mind at ease, I know NAIM has wobbly bits for good reason and I knew about the wobbly mains socket.
Sounds great but needs a lot of running in, and over the next couple of weeks its gonna get it
.
Due to the late hour (and my neighbours) I am keeping things nice and low and what a difference over my previous NAIT 5i-2, which would sound a little lifeless at low volume.
Eazy, That's good to hear. You've bought a gorgeous amp.

Maybe naim could add a "WOBBLY BITS LIST" section in the user manual ![]()
Haha. Yes they should.
Eazyrider, the sockets on the NAIT XS are hard mounted to the PCB, which is in turn mounted to the chassis on compliant mounts - designed to cut down deleterious effects to performance from microphonics. This is why the DINs on the NAIT XS are a bit "wobbly"...

Yes - it could replace this:-
"Note: The NAIT XS 2 features various technologies to reduce microphonic effects. Some movement of the board and sockets when connecting and disconnecting cables is normal."
on Page E10 of the Manual.
They still wouldn't be able to get anyone to read it.
Yes, but a nice bold reference to "Wobbly Bits" might grab more attention.

Wow I thought I had covered everything in the manual thank you Adam for pointing that out. I shall go over it again, think I was too eager to power up and get the music flowing
