Multi-room

Posted by: Stephen Pritchard on 04 May 2016

Periodically I have a problem with multiroom (NDS and 4 'Qutes).

The issue is that there are times when I cannot connect any of the slaves to the master (if that is the correct terminology) when wanting to play music from my NAS in several rooms.  The next day the problem is solved until the next glitch a few days later. I have a wired network with QNAP NAS, running Twonky and Mimim (still cant get used to minim; few art work, and slow response).

Any ideas of how to rectify the glitch, without burrowing under the stairs and turning the 'qutes on and off?

Sounds odd.

One thing I would recommend is that you upload a decent sever software. Try Minimserver - it's free, but it's good to make a donation if you like it.

I also run QNAP NAS with 4 networked streamers. Multiroom works fine

I will ask you some questions below, with regards to your network set up and music:

  1. Is your network enabled for automatic DHCP?
  2. Are all the streamers set for auto DHCP and have multiroom input enabled?
  3. Is the music you try to 'multi-room' of a quality no higher than 44.1 KHz? Multiroom only works with that quality for now.

Minim is usually blisteringly fast, which makes it sound as if there is a network problem.

Thanks for the comments chaps ... most helpful checklist and I will continue to try minim'

First Minim' I've installed it and is available as a choice when using my iPhone to select music, but there are few images, possibly because my phone is nearly full ... (I use folder view)

My network is DHCP enable and set for auto, and the multiroom input is enabled.  So I think the problem could well be choice of quality - so mea culpa
