DAC-V1 next firmware update?

Posted by: thijazi on 08 May 2016

I am wondering if there is any reason to believe Naim are working on a further firmware update for the DAC-V1? I am happy with the latest update except for my experience with DSD playback, I still get pops, drops and other artifacts when listening to DSD files....  I am willing to beta test

Not my experience. Could you publish some of the tracks and where did you buy them to try with my v1?

I have a very limited nuber of dsd tracks, most of them when beta tested.

I get most of my DSD files from either Bluecoast Records or Native DSD... Are you using a streamer or a PC for playback? I use a PC

The next upgrade should be the V2 or nDac2.

@Thijazi

I take it you updated the Win PC driver as well as the f/w and run bit-perfect. Try setting Windows for high performance and use Task Mgr to get rid of background tasks you don't need for music. In the USB set up menu your buffer level should be relatively stable.

DAC V1 is sensitive to just about anything you plug in it- experiment with different cables but I suspect its DSD performance is not quite at the level of the PCM.

I did all of that, I also tested Fedlizer (http://www.fidelizer-audio.com/) to see if it can help but same result, actually it went from loud clicks/pops to the volume drops.... The one thing I did not dig into is any USB setup menus, I don't recall coming across them in Windows. I will also try another player, perhaps JRiver to isolate roon in case it was the culprit.

The only album I have from Bluecoast records is the BCR collection, the light blue one, and it works fine.

There was a problem (pop) when going from one pcm track to a dsd track (or vice versa), but , as I know, in the last version it was solved.

USB Setup  via DAC-V1menus - I do not recall anyone with Roon in beta, so yes try JRiver
