Multiroom - wow

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 11 May 2016

Sorry about the 'wow'; it seems to be the current thing.

I was reflecting on how having a Qb in the kitchen has improved my enjoyment of music. It sounds great by itself, but on evenings like this when I'm cooking a meal that takes ages in the oven with periodic trips to turn over the veg, the Qb is invaluable. I can play Richard Thompson in the sitting room, pootle off to the kitchen and the music is still there, in perfect sync. No need to turn it up loud and open all the doors, which was my previous version of multiroom. Who'd have thought, back in days of yore, that such a thing would be possible?

A & B speaker buttons and long bell wire was the 80's version!

HH,picked a Qb up last Friday for the conservotry as you say superb on its own just sorting out the multiroom settings, suprised how well it  works wirelessly.

Make a rather nice PC speaker as well?

It is a wonderful thing this multiroom A pitty it can only handle CD-quality music for now (no Hi Res Audio at the mo)

If I were a Naim dealer, I would set up in a roomy house, with a different system in each room, then sync the lot. The ability to walk around and hear your music carry over to different settings and acoustics is phenomenal.

I hope this will be dealt with in a future upgrade. On a few occasions I've put something in 24 bit on in the sitting room and when I later try to send it to the Qb it refuses to play. Still, it's a minor inconvenience.

Just bought one of these too but I'm not that blown away by it at the moment if I'm honest.

Sound quality is good but I've got an old Pure DAB radio that is more than adequate in this area for what it is most used for i.e. casual listening

The unexpected irritations are the time it takes to start playing a new input e.g. a new iradio channel, the lack of info on the Qb of what channel is playing, and the paltry 5 presets. It also drops channels too frequently despite a strong wifi signal in the area - at this price I'd expected a decent buffer against this issue

Having to always use your phone or a tablet is a step backwards in convenience for casual listening.

On the plus side, it looks lovely and can put some energy into a song, though I wouldn't class it as brilliant sound wise. Spotify works OK too.

Perhaps I'm being too critical but I was expecting more.

You can have as many presets as you want, and can select the top five from the top panel. I use mine wired, as it kept dropping out on wireless.

Check your room settings??

Mine is in the conservotry and works well wirelessly which to be honest I was suprised at being the room that is farthest from the router.

My PC and printer are in the kitchen/dining room which is closer to the router drop out on wireless I've had to use a wired connection it seems that distance is not the only paremeter for good wireless connection.

NB.I think you can use the remote from the Muso to operate your Qb check with your dealer.

Yep - I have 20+ Presets on my phone, I was trying to make the point that you can't see what channel is on without using your phone and that only those 5 presets are available to scroll through from the Qb itself. So if you don't have your phone on you then you're unable to choose a simple radio station.

It should have been really simple to have put a single line in the display showing the channel name and allowing scrolling and selection given it's already a touchscreen.

If I want to wire mine in I'll need to buy another powerline adapter but may need to do that.

I stand by my original view that it should be so much better in terms of interface and use than it is for the price charged.

EDIT. Sorry going too far off topic. I can't try multi room yet as my Uniti2 and the Qb are on two different wireless routers. May try and see if I can remedy this.
