Putting the system back together and plugging the CDS3 back into and snap.

Never mind - vinyl still sounds sublime.

Ouch! Lavender as backup?

Posted on: 14 May 2016 by The Strat (Fender)

Actually still got my Chord Anthem.   I think we can say this a 1st world drama!

300 has been back from d r upgrade for 2 weeks and has been running non stop, just sat down to my first spin of vinyl and I have to say everything else pale into insignificance after just the first side, so back to topic, your back up ain't bad is it?

Regards Hilary

ps last time my Hiline broke I sent back and  the mothership mended it and returned it FOC!

so maybe all is not lost.

Time for an upgrade? SuperLumina DIN is sublime - costly but sounds good.

Time For Naim to start replacing the plastic plug with the SuperLumina version.

Agreed, Adam, and much more robust.

No further upgrades necessary.

Who ever used the word "necessary"? 'Desired' is perhaps more relevant

Well - I liked my SL DIn so much, the HighLine never made it back.

When bass used to be a bit muddy, now it snapped into focus.

More seriously if I changed anything it would be the speakers.   I love the way Neat Ultimatums and the Focal Sopras go with Naim electronics but that's a an investment on a considerably bigger scale.

Having had an amazing listening session last night I have to say the jury is still well and truly out with regard to the relative qualities of the Anthem vs Hiline.  The former has qualities - vocals, acoustic instruments etc - which the Hiline hasn't got.  But it's all in the subtleties - both are excellent.

And before anyone says SL or Sarum -  were that level of investment available it would go on dr upgrades for the HCs or XPS.

It's all good!!

Go mad then, there's a pair of XL10's out there at the moment.

Love them Dave but just won't fit in my room.

Posted on: 15 May 2016 by dave marshall

Bigger room then?

Posted on: 15 May 2016 by The Strat (Fender)

Thank you Dave - retirement isn't so far away - if anything we'd downsize!!

Smaller house, bigger listening room

I haven't unpacked my hiline from its most recent repair - toying with trying out SL to see what it brings...

Posted on: 15 May 2016 by The Strat (Fender)

Thank you chaps   So the conclusion is that I need a smaller house with bigger listening room, and an expensive new cable.

Think I'll just play a record.  Oh hold on - I am.

Have a good week guys.

Regatds,

Lindsay

Not forgetting bigger speakers, more powerful amp........

Keep on enjoying Lindsay

Ouch sorry to hear that Lindsay. It's a delicate cable for sure. I'm getting ready to tear down my Fraim stacks and rebuild them (hopefully this long weekend) and I will try to be extra careful after reading this - I have three of the damn things!

I'll humbly suggest you need a supercap for your 282 before anything else
