Advice needed on 202/200/Hicap

Posted by: JamesN on 15 May 2016

Hi all,

Just a quick bit of advice needed if possible? I have my 202 200 Hicap napsc connected, but when I turn off the power amp and the Hicap, the pre stays on. Is this because it is being fed by the napsc now? Is this normal? Might be a silly question but it's my first time with a napsc.

Thanks!

Yes - All normal James.

The napsc supplies power to the lights and the digital switching bits. So when the Hicap is off, the analogue bits are off, but the lights are still on. Make sure you keep the napsc as far from the 202 as you can, which will maximise sound quality. You mention the 200 being off - presumably you have the 200 connected to the Hicap rather than to the 202, which is how it's supposed to be connected?

Hi, yes I have definitely got it connected properly, and it's sounding great...much better than my 122x 150x flatcap2x it replaced, though I do think it is a little on the bright side!

napsc is on the floor away from the rest of the system so should be optimal.

Thanks again!

Excellent. You may find that you can ameliorate the brightness by fiddling with the toein of your speakers - if they are pointing straight at your head they can sound beamy, but if they are pointing more forwards the sound will be more open.

Yep, I did have quite a toe in on the speakers but have straightened them out a little which has really helped with the sibilance. Thanks for the advice!

Don't worry, I only turned them off for 10 minutes whilst cleaning. They were on permanently for about 4 months before that!
