supernait dac & motorola pvr/dvr

Posted by: av in bc on 27 June 2011

hi there.

i'm unable to connect either the optical or coaxial digital audio output

from the tv tuner box to the supernait dac.

just getting the same noise on both. it worked fine with my denon receiver.

is this possible with the nait? is it a 5.1 encoding output that the dac can't read?

has anyone done this successfully!

The SN will not take 5.1

It cuts out or has a loud hiss in the background

Don't know wot your PVR settings are,  but my guess you have a Dolby on or off somewhere

Dolby is the 5.1 culprit

Mike's correct.  You'll need to change the digital ouput settings on your PVR to PCM/Stereo.

I just faced this problem when switching to Verizon Fios, I believe the tuner is a Motorolla but I'm not sure which model.  I came to find out that even when selecting stereo output, the digital output still does not downmix and can only be output as surround.  I ended up using the analog output and it sounds fine.

from what i can see there is no setting for audio output.

so i will use the analog outs which sound just fine.

thanks everyone.

Read or Download the   TV Guide DVR Manual

Dolby Digital –
• ON – Turns Dolby Digital on (available only for equipment supporting Dolby Digital).
• OFF – Turns Dolby Digital off.

just to wrap this up, in case someone else runs into

this problem.

can't turn off dolby.

solution was to take the optical output from the tv (fed with hdmi)

and connect that to the nait.

thanks for all the help.
