HDX to ND5XS or SuperUniti?

Posted by: Klout10 on 17 May 2016

Currently, my system comprises of: HDX, SuperNait 1 and Neat Motive SX2. I’m very happy with the sound quality and have no need to upgrade … but … my HDX is one of the earlier models (the one with the 2x 400 GB drives and no PCI/RAM upgrade. As far as know, no streaming services will be incorporated in the HDX.

Since I’m also the happy owner of a mu-so Qb, I’m listening a lot to the Tidal streaming service included, in fact: so much that I haven’t bought a new CD ever since. So I went to my dealer to see if there is an opportunity to incorporate Tidal in my main setup.

After a good chat, the following two options were left:

1. Replace HDX by ND5XS (and transfer music collection to a NAS)

2. Replace both HDX and SuperNait 1 with a SuperUniti.

My dealer made me a good offer for the second option

A nice additional advantage is that I’m able to control all Naim devices with the Naim app (instead of using n-Serve for the HDX).

Did anybody had the change to compare these different systems?

Any thoughts / advice is welcome.

Many regards,

Michel

I'm not sure why you'd want to add a Sonos to a SuperUniti.

I would keep the super Nait 1 instead of switching to the SuprtUniti so the sonos would do the streaming.

Hmmm - it's like getting a sports car, but fitting poor tyres on it...

If you want to keep the HDX, I'd get it updated.  The newer system and newer hdd's (or ssd's) will provide a much better experience.  Me personally -- I'd get a nas and a networked player of some sort.
