Naim Headline 2 i supply upgrade , to flatcap 2.

Posted by: Pieman. on 19 May 2016

Hi forum.

I have just purchased a Slic interconnect lead to enable my flatcap 2 psu, to power a headline 2 amp. I was using a naim  i supply previously. Is the flatcap 2 a much improved solution over a i supply and in what way is it better?.

Hello Pieman,

I've heard clear improvements each time I upgraded the power supply on my Headline. The most significant step was to go from a iSupply to a NAPSC. A Flatcap is even better than a NAPSC, so yes, you can expect a good improvement in term of noise floor, bass presence and mid-highs clarity.

NB: The scale of the improvement a PSU upgrade brings is in direct correlation with the quality of your source component.

Absolutely. Since listening to headphones is alrady like listening to music under a magnifying glass compared to speakers, the power supply upgrades on the HL2 really shine through. I would imagine a iSupply to FC2 is a gigantlc improvement. I went from NAPSC to HiCapDR and the results were incredible.

The other benefit is that the FC, HC and SC all deliver 24v instead of 18v from NAPSC/iSUpply and this does pay off when driving more difficult cans.

Interestingly I just noticed that the NAPSC has been removed from Naim's webesite.

Thanks guys, for the replies.

Power is such a important subject in HI-FI, quality of the power is what I hope has happened here.

Maybe those soothsayers who claim Naim are about to shake a stick at their preamp range are onto something???
