NAPSC vanishes from naim.com and 202 upgrade path

Posted by: feeling_zen on 20 May 2016

I noticed this while commenting on another post. But it appears the NAPSC is really gone from naim.com and all mention of this as an upgrade to the 202 have been removed. Cue wild speculation and rumor. Not very productive but we all do it.

Implications for future of the Headline and current preamp lineup?

Many have said that the current range of preamps was refreshed with the DR upgrade on the power supplies. I don't buy that for a second. I have actually for a while now put all intentions of a 252 on hold despite my dealers sweet nothings in my ear and pulled my 282 off the market some time ago deciding that it's replacement will be whatever replaces the 252. Ine 1 year or 3, such a change is sure to come.

Of course we need see if we like that product too

Still mentioned as being supplied with the 282 though.

It has to be. The 282 won't work without it.

Yes it still referenced across the site, and in the latest Connections guide.. I think it's a web editing issue, as when you click on the NAPSC hypertext links on the naim audio site you get a message you are not authorised to see page... perhaps Naim are bringing out a new NAPSC DR for the Headline and other devices and are updating its page.

Could be a web editing issue if you remember the NDX manuel vanished a couple of weeks ago but has since returned.

Possibly I could beleive an error if the NAPSC page itself was the only one that vanished. But it seems like the references to it remain only where it is mandatory (282) or the most common pairing (Headline).

The fact that the sentence about the NAPSC was removed from teh 202 page and also from the "Upgrade Path" section makes me think that while an editing mistake is possible, it is the less likely scenario. Of course the next few weeks/months will tell whether I am just reading way too much into this.

Naim has called in all distributors for a special presentation this summer.

It is believed a new range of pre-amps might be shown....

Let's see

I don't care about pre-amps, as I can't afford the statement pre-amp, I would care about a ND555

I think for new Naim preamps will use or XP5XS, or XPSDR, or 555PSDR.
For example, as in the NAC-N272.

I guess this would explain why many of the pre amp prices have remained static during the recent, regular, maim price increases.

Nick

There's a big gap to fill between the number of regulated outputs a SC provides over a XPS. Plus it would mean Naim backtracking on their preferred method of feeding power amp inputs. I think your guess is possible but if I was betting I would put money on the FC, HC, and SC sticking around as the defacto way of powering analog preamps.

Typical...just as I make the move to Naim amps and I also order an NAPSC I now find out new items may just be round the corner... Ah well...then again if you always wait you will never buy

JF - I wouldn't fret - the current pre-amps may or may not be superseded but great music makers they will remain.

True....and you gotta love the rumor mill...

Indeed - this rumour seems to be building its own momentum - like a feedback loop slowly become more and more unstable

Even though I quite like the design of the current black cases they have been around for some time. If the preamps are to be updated radically it would be good to see the casework refreshed alongside the internal components - with some visual design influence from the Statement / Mu-so boxes.

If the preamps get superseded what do we expect to see, what would we like to see?

I'd expect we'd lose the record set of inputs for one. But will there be new functionality or "just" some Statement fairy dust floating down on them?

It would be nice if bluetooth aptX could be included as standard.

I can't imagine myself moving over as a 552 replacement would most likely be totally off budget. In a weird sort of way I'd like if they were all superseded as now I'm the wrong side of 50 I feel I should have something special that cannot be purchased anymore (it would feel like a type of upgrade!)

They will 'go deeper' (hopefully not as blingy).

Maybe that's the right side of 50, taking everything into consideration....?

Gosh I hope not. I can't be doing with that slab of perspex. Every time I see it I wonder what they were thinking.
