CDS3/XPS2 vs CD555

Posted by: Patrick Lam on 22 May 2016

Hi all,

May I ask the strengths of each of the captioned CDP?  Can I say that the presentation of vocals of CDS3 is better than CD555 whilst the presentation of symophony and orchestra of CD555 is better?

Then, do we consider the factor of listening preference before considering to upgrade the CDP?

Any advice is highly appreciated!

Cheers,

Patrick

I suggest you read my post above.

Drewy, I believe that HH is trying to remind you that a NAP250DR cannot supply power to a preamp so that the 282 would have to have a separate power supply i.e. the HiCap if paired with a 250.

Actually, the post I was referring to was the suggestion that Patrick get a 282/200. Contrary to Drewy's insinuation, I have and had no intention of recommending a 272, as its not relevant to Patrick's system.

You're slower than me. I fully realise that. In fact I already have a hicap dr in readiness for the 282 in my own system. It was a long day yesterday.

Oh and Mr Hallibut, you need a sense of humour with me around, I do realise this thread is mainly about CD players (the clue is in the title).

I agree, but for the most part the reason we pick and poke with you (HH), is because we think you are a fine chap.

Also lots of valuable information has been passed on by The Big Fish, not to mention your eagerness to help others when they reach out to the Forum!

Which is by far more important than the pecking order!

Personally once one has Invested over 30K in a Naim System and set up properly, it's all good!

Especially a four box rig, in the  likes of yours!

Just my two cents, but what do I know!

I'm intrigued by the four boxes.

Hello Patrick,

I'd be interested in knowing how good your CDS3 is into a NAC252 and your NAP150x and n-Sats. Apologies if this has already been suggested.

Best, Chris

Me too, my suggestion is get a 2nd hand 282/hicap/200 in minimum to match with your wonderful cds3/xps2, the bottle neck is really the 122/150 which hiddle a lot of potentials and details of cds3.
