Time to get the vinyl out of the loft
Posted by: dayjay on 27 May 2016
In a desperate attempt not to buy a 250DR, which I'm not sure I need, I have pulled the trigger on an ex dem Rega RP8 and a Stageline that I definitely don't need. Now I can listen to my old vinyl complete with its crackles and pops and spend more money on albums I already own. All of this and I have saved myself £1,500 on the price of a Nap250DR. Oh God.

No! It's take me a week to talk myself out of it. I'll wait until Xmas and then borrow my dealers and see if I really do need it
As soon as you hear it you will need it. There is no maybe or talking yourself out of it.
Your fighting a losing battle with upgraditis just like me. It's all good

I think you'll find crackling and popping vinyl is an urban myth. With a quality turntable/arm/cartridge. it isn't an issue.
Also, consider the money you'll recoup from the sale of your soon to be redundant Hugo.![]()
What a shocking thing to say Fatcat! I love my Hugo and I'm sure it will live in perfect harmony alongside its vinyl playing brother

The problem is I have already heard it and its very nice indeed, however, what I have sounds great every time I hear it which is why I haven't pressed the button and bought the 250dr. It seems a little sad to buy something to improve a sound that I already love, hence the dramatic move to vinyl - which will be fun as will collecting new vinyl
Vinyl: a much sturdier medium than yo might think. Ask Thor!

Sensible answer.
I went to a speaker dem to day - I'll post detail later - but the source was a NDS and Roksan Xerxes and it was a classic example of analogue showing digital how it should be done.
RP8 and Stageline have arrived and been duly set up. Still not certain I have got the weight set up properly but even in its temporary position (the wall shelf hasn't arrived yet) it sounds very good, and I can see that there is considerable promise there. I have also discovered that some of my vinyl is in dire need of either a damned good clean or replacement but that's another story.
Well done!
On the weight - I found that Apheta likes to be towards the end weight of a scale given in a manual. Example: if your's says 1.65 - 2.00 try somewhere close to 1.85-1.90

I have both, and agree with you.
