Rediscovering a classic.

Recently picked up a lovely Chrome Bumper 250, fully serviced by Naim 3 years ago, and is from exactly the same year that i first purchased a new 250, 1986. I'm using it on Kans from the same period, and am reminded of their combined signature like it was yesterday. Presently using a DacV1 straight into 250 and it's a lot of fun and very insightful. If ever a product defined what Naim is about, this 250 is it.

Sounds like fun and a nice mix of some old and new equipment in the one system. My DAC-V1 feeds a 200 which really does boogie big time. I can just imagine what a 250 and Kans would be like too

I think I know where you got that from. I recently purchased his naim serviced Nac52 & Supercap. Sadly I did not have any further funds to purchase either of his Serviced Nap 250's.

However I am so pleased with the Nac 52 it was a slight step up from my 152xs/flat cap XS combo.

Glad you are enjoying the 250. That may be my next step in the future.

Congratulations Garry.

I to had a 250 of a similar age as yours back in the late 80 ' s and was also using Kans and have fond memories of the 250' s sheer drive with the Kans.I had been using a 110 but I loved the way the 250 really got a grip on the Kans especially bass slam.

Of cause we didn't have so much digital in sources back then so it would be interesting how your 250 with classic Naim voicing sounds with today's digital sources.

I suppose with the other thread about Naim clones from China which will never get serviced supported if you purchased one.Its lovely that Naim service their products and you have a vintage 250 in mint condition.

Happy listening Cheers Ian

The 250 has got to be the quintessential Naim product. I bought mine in 1983 and ran it with a 42.5 and Hicap, into a lovely pair of black Kans. The source of course was the LP12, with Ittok and Asak. What a super setup that was, with musical communication absolutely to the fore. It would be fascinating to hear the 250 and Kans fronted by a V1.

Ian and Nigel, the V1/250 really does work better than one expects. Like always, the better the recording the better it sounds, but even Radio Paradise is completely engrossing. In terms of timing and realism of instrumentation, this combo would take some beating me thinks.... and the bass slam  is shockingly dynamic. Not the last word in sophistication, but  we know that.

Gary,

I can quite imagine it to sound exactly as you describe it. I'll be honest when I bought my V1 I wanted a 250 to pair it with, but was slightly out of my budget at the time, which is why I opted for the 200.

The one thing that continues to impress me with my V1-200 is the agility and timing. It's really impressive to my ears.

I would imagine the 250 to be even better and really well suited to the V1.
