New Naim Webpage. Where are the CD Players?
Posted by: Gigantor on 09 June 2016
Hello again,
When visiting the Naim Website tonight. I noticed the web page has changed, possibly a welcome change. I am still dreaming of my yet to happen CD5 XS purchase and like to load the pages and dream. Upon clinking on the default links I was unable to locate a CD player other than the 5si. After doing a search I found the CD5 XS. If anyone new visiting the web page for the first time and did not know the model numbers would only find one CD player. What gives?
The same is true for other components as well. SuperNait2, CD2 and others.
Are Main dropping their CD players? Should I rush out, bust the budget and purchase a CD5 XS?
Warm regards,
Paul.
Whoever has them is holding on tightly. I've been looking to upgrade my CDP with something from the second hand market for a while.
All the CD players are on the website now.
Where is th sn2?
Yeah, it's all there still but the new browse by category function has made it a bit clunky. You have to dig a bit to get evrything which can't be good practice?
A bit hybrid at the moment but hopefully on the way to eradicating the vacuous 'go deeper' nonsense and associated vaporous graphics.

I just wish they would reinstute the access to manuals for old equipment. Surely it can't take up that much space on the website?

And it can be explained to the marketing department as heritage building.

When I try to open a page on the website, I get a light grey screen with a Wheel of Death in the middle. If I'm very lucky, this might only last 5 or 10 seconds, but often much longer, and it's not unusual that I just give up. At the moment it's particularly bad, and the site is a complete no-go area for me, so I have no idea what these changes are that you're discussing. This is on OSX and iOS.
This is very silly. What's wrong with "amplifiers", "cd players", "streamers", etc. "Marque separates" indeed... Makes you wish to get a Devialet.
Is bollox int it
The product layout seems less intuitive than the previous edition of the website. I don't like the terms 'classic' or 'marque' either...somehow irritating!
For all its logic, the marque separates page has been put together by a macaque. What the hell is a marque separate. Bollocks indeed.

Dear Sir,
We macaques resent being associated with third-rate site designers.
Yours truly,
Disgusted Macaque of Tunbridge Wells.
Wow, what a steaming pile. What's the difference between an "All-in-one Player" and an "Integrated Player". In fact what does either mean? Marquee/macaque? Still can't find the SN2. Long load times, presumably just so we can have distracting images in the background. Less-is-more is not a design philosophy of the idiots who designed this thing. Cancel their cheque.
or one could select browse by type -
but that would be no fun would it, couldn't post here about how horrible the new site is!

Well, I had a quick look atbthe website, and apart from possible missing items some people have mentioned my main criticism is that the list of links at the bottom is only found by bothering to read what othewise is often trivial stuff, when it would be better either as tabs at the top or a sidebar.
i have to say I think it is better than the recent version that immediately launched a flask video as well as making things I wanted hard to find. (Web designer who incorprate features that delay access such as auto-loading flash videos or other effects, or who makee content in any way slow to load or difficult to find simply lose potential customers for their client because they can't be bothered to wait or wade through trash, while committed customers curse the business.
Thank you Sloop John B. I am a mac user and was sorting my "Panes". I am not sure what you call them these days. I am a little our of touch. When I open a new Tab I have a selection of 15 panes I can select from. The default pane that came up with Naim Audio was for Products. This is where I went wrong. I can see from you comment that there is now a selection of links at the bottom of the page at the home page. My error.
Warm regards,
Paul.
Alas to me the web site is suffering a real identity crisis. It can't work out whether to lead on audiophile pretentiousness, audio engineering quality, lifestyle or product and the end result is all slightly incoherent, rambling and clunky. But agree the term 'marque seperates' is a real spanner and certainly is full on prentiousness.

Rather than being snippy, which is what I was being last night, I'll be more objective, and I hope Naim find this useful.
At the bottom of the page there are the links to the various types of product, which fine. Then, at the top, there are the three lines that you press, which gives the first option 'products'. Thought is needed about getting rid of the top options, and having all options available at the bottom, which is what I'd do. There is then a little video that looks like it was made by a three year old with music from the three year old's favourite TV show. There are four families of products - the mu-so boxes, the Uniti stuff, then the integrated systems, then the marque separates.
The integrated systems includes only the two Si units, so seems largely pointless. Then there are the comically named marque separates. Here we have the classic services, the 500 and the statement. Stuff like the 152, 155 and 172, and the the flatcap, are nowhere to be seen. I'd suggest ditching the integrated systems page and adding the slimline series as a separate family in the separates page. Call the separates 'Hifi separates' instead of marque.
Then add something useful that explains how to build a system. I'd have an option 'how to build a Naim system' at the bottom. Then, have step by step guide through the process. Start with Uniti, then go to separates. The range is confusing and something that leads people though would be really helpful.
There should be a Hungry Halibut option at the top heading. For those fresh going deeper into the Naim experience can have a direct link for advice.....
The website should only provide useful stuff. There has to be a way of helping people through the complex range. People can go to the Forum if the want to be confused. Come to think of it, a more explicit link to the Forum would be good.
Basically - a nonsense re-design.
A clear proof that new is sometimes an enemy the old.
Naim: get rid of whiever designed that new website for you.
Can't say i have looked at the website for a while. Having just had a browse, i can only agree with Adam in the reply above. Get a new web designer.
