Help needed: can someone run a small test?

Posted by: thijazi on 10 June 2016

If you are running a Naim DAC-V1 connected to either PC, MAC, Sonore Microrendu or any other USB interface to the Naim DAC-V1, and if have any music in 176.4/24 bit FLAC format can you please run a brief test? It would help me determine how frequently this issue appears in Naim DAC-V1 or if my DAC has an issue.

Press and hold the USB button on the DAC until the USB status screen is showing and then playback a 176.4/24 bit track and let me know if the USB buffer continues to drop from the +60% until it reaches a lowly 15-20% before the buffer jumps back up, for me this jump is always accompanied by a clearly audible "click/pop". I tried a MAC instead of my Windows PC with the same result, I swapped the USB cables, copied the files to local storage, did everything I can think off, the buffering issue is still there.

Funny enough the buffer is stable if I playback 192/24bit files which are larger! Go figure...

Thanks.

Are you sure you have the last FW update?

I will do the testing and report later.

By mistake I did the testing using AIFF, buffer is always 60-65% cpu 37%. No click/pop.

I will repeat with FLAC.

If you have a DAC - V1, you will always be lonely on this forum. Loadsa peeps on here on here don't like DAC - V1, and r into leetle fag packet playerz, and such. Just ignore them.

Unfortunately I don't have the solution to your problem.

Please let me know how you get on.

Ha ha, I tried the "leetle fag packet playerz" and didn't like it, so went back to my DAC-V1

"Fag packet" obviously means something different in the UK than the US.

I did the test with a FLAC file and buffer went from +90% down to 63% cpu 36-37%. No click/pop.

I'll leave it to you to work it out  .......  I guess a packet of fags in USA could mean a collective ....... dare I say "form a circle boys"

While in the US, my wife once made a derogatory comment about an ashtray being 'full of horrible dirty fag butts' which caused much hilarity amongst the locals.

@Erich,

Was the test done on a 176khz/24 bit file?
