Unitiqute to play spotify?

Posted by: Naimark on 10 June 2016

Hello everyone,

I would like to try spotify on my naim gear (cds3/252/250.2) as a second source.

Since I prefer to spend money to buy a nap300 and then 555ps, my budget is limited, 800-1000€.

What I'm thinking is to buy a second hand uniqute or cyrus xa.

Could anyone suggest me the best solution?

Thanks in advance.

I love my Qute2 as a stand-alone.  If you have a future plan for the Qute, go for it.

If not, I would prefer a used ND5XS and gain iPad control of the 252.

Or, I would get by with a PC/Mac through a DAC of some sort.

Hmmmm...

Perhaps you could contemplate other streaming sources, hi-res audio etc etc. NDX or NDS could be a good source.

As to Spotify - I cancelld my subscription after 6 months, and never looked back...

System syngery is important - 252 is too good to suffer an indignity of being connected to an ND5XS  Or in other words - the dac in ND5XS is not up to the standard of CDS3. Unfortunately for the OP only NDS will come close....

Adam,

I am forced to agree with you.  Given the choice, I'd take the NDS for 800-1000€, too.

I thought a used ND5XS might trade in the same ball park as the Qute, with at least equal sound quality.  Maybe I am mistaken.

Possibly, but i think it would be a bit of a waste of time and money...

Why do things in halves?

Nd5 xs is much more expensive than my budget, in italy is around 1800€.

I know that spotify is not a source quality, but my intention is only to "try" music through it and then buy cd album.

I don't want use pc or other, my router is placed in another room.

Hope this clarifies, thanks

To me the cheapest way to just try Spotify is looking for a s/h Sonos Connect. That's what I did.

I payd € 220,- for a mint s/h Sonos Connect and hooked it up to my Unitiqute. (I still have a UQ1, therefor no integrated Spotify)
It works very well, and sounds quite good too, considering the little money spent! If a Sonos Connect would not live up to your demands you can easily sell it, without any or worth mentioning loss.

kind regards,
Alco

yes, indeed.

Not really worth wasting all those money for a UQ2 matched to that sort of system.

Source a cheap UQ and you're done.

Sonos should work also without uniqute or not?

Why using uq in combination with sonos?

In your situation, there's no need for a UQ if you use a Sonos Connect - the Sonos will supply spotify to your 252 (with the correct cable).

In Alco's case, he already had an older model of UQ which cannot use spotify directly. So he added a Sonos so that he could use spotify with his UQ.

Ok thanks.

I could buy sonos or uniqute (compatible with spotify), both connected to spotify via wifi..correct?

In terms of quality result, are they many difference to justify the more expenisive uq?

Sonos or Qute.  Whichever you choose, plan to wire it to your network, if you can.  WiFi can sometimes work, under ideal circumstances, but, wire is way more reliable. Best to use WiFi only as a means to control devices from Andriod/iPhone, etc.

Good luck.
