Qobuz vs TIDAL

Posted by: Erich on 11 June 2016

Until last week I had only a subscription to TIDAL.  Being in Switzerland I subscribed to a Qobuz free trial (where I live is not available).

I'm starting to compare both services because I want to keep only one of them. I would appreciate forums members could give some advice/opinions to avoid reinventing the wheel.

Up to now I like more the sound of Qobuz in my kit. I'm streaming using Mac - Audirvana. Both services work fine for me with Audirvana in the Mac and also in the iPhone app.

On my Mac Mini/Audirvana/Hugo I found Tidal significantly better than Qobuz.  Qobuz was better than Spotify and worth having to test new music, to me Tidal was good enough to listen to seriously

Both work for me, while Qobuz can't be integrated in my main setup and only through airdrop on my Muso. If it would also be available on my main system I would switch to Qobuz as I would at the same time have the benefit of the discount on buying and the combination of buying. Sound quality would be less of a determining factor as I use both services just to get a sneak preview in albums, before buying it.

Qobuz then in addition has the benefit of streaming in high res which Tidal doesn't do.

Just try it out based on sound quality at your location.

I've had both and much prefer Qobuz but I am now using Tidal solely due to the great integration with Nstream - if Naim support Qobuz or I change to a more flexible digital source I would switch back in a heartbeat!
