Football season 2016/17

Given that the fixtures are now out, I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread.
I am also hoping Reading can clinch the play off promotion place - it would help my away game carbon footprint considerably

Thanks, Chris. Looks like it could be a very good season for South Coast clubs. Apart from your lot strutting their stuff comfortably in the PL; Brighton have done brilliantly to get promoted to the PL after some heart-breaking near-misses; Bournemouth look to be heading for 3rd season in the PL, which is a tremendous achievement for a club of their size; and of course Plymouth are going up to League One with my lot. Oh, and let's not forget that Eastleigh are in with a shout of a play-off place too.
I like your optimism, but I can't share it about Saints right now, who seem to be fighting for mid-table mediocrity at best. I mean let's face it, big names are only ever going to go to London or the NW. (Which is exactly where Pochettino and Koeman went too).
Yes, I get it that it's problem that a lot of clubs would like to have. Oh well.

I am surprised you don't fancy a trip to Sheffield Chris....
Graham.
Well I suppose losing Sunderland and Middlesbrough would sufficiently off-set Newcastle. Swansea look most vulnerable after that - it would be a shame to miss out on a foreign trip though.
Was yesterday the start of Spurs going Spursie?
Certainly the continuation of Chelsea being Chelsea-ie
Jamie - I would not say that yesterday was continuity from the Old Trafford performance
Clearly the team illness didn't help but as you saw yesterday, Costa's confidence/mental state is shot and our lanky Belgian can't make or take a 10 yard pass, which means there is a lack of upfront focus. The whole team dynamic changed when our little Belgian came on though...

Hope you put Arsenal to bed in the FA cup final.......we couldn't......oh well theres always next season for some silverwear for Man City.
Play offs for the Owls after a 0-1 win over the tractor boys. Hope we can go one better than last season.
Graham.
I'm pleased that Norwich did not entirely capitulate, and the relegation tussle will prove interesting. Villa letting Blackburn win was amusing
Boro 2, Man City 2..... at this stage.
Jesus.
(He equalised).

But he didn't work work a miracle Chris and get us the 3 points
Love City but so hope Boro stay up.
At least United also drew.
Spurs - Arsenal should be tasty...... looking forward to Match of the day 2 tonight

Can't see them catching Chelsea this year but great optimism for next year......if we can get used to playing at Wembley.

It's the morning after St Totteringham's Day, and I'm enjoying a delicious breakfast of mashed Spuds and gloat gravy with lasagne and hard cheese, washed down with a pint of bitter.
Spurs crumble for pud!
It was their Cup Final, and again this year they bottled it. After dining I think I will take a stroll over to The Fighting Cock (emphasis on Cock) forum to witness the meltdown and laugh at the keyboard warriors and Spuds' famously low-wattage fans.
Isn't that just like West Ham.....for all the pain they put me through, its moments like this that make me realise just how much i love them....we did it again
Just need to beat Boro and The Baggies and Chelsea are champions before Spurs play again.
Pompey win League 2 on goal difference, after a 6-1 win over Cheltenham at Fratton Park!!!! What a brilliant end to the season in which they finally get off the bottom. Happy days.
OMG! Not sure I've come down from cloud-nine yet. IIRC we were something like 18 points behind Doncaster at one stage and fretting that we have to settle for the play-offs again. Going into today's final games, where we needed to win and hope that neither Plymouth or Doncaster won, I had turned the permutations over in my mind umpteen times. Like many fans, I feared a injury time disappointment, or if the results elsewhere went our way we would fail at home to Cheltenham. But we went into fantasy-land and thrashed them 6-1.
I suppose if you are offered going to go to the top of the league for just one game in the whole season the one to pick is the 46th
First championship achievement since we won the old Championship in 2003 with Harry in charge and the wonderful Merson and Todorov.
League One here we come.
With Swans beating Everton and Hull losing to the Mackems, the relegation zone is really hotting up!
Listening to the radio when these fixtures came out, it was interesting that all the pundits were blithely carrying on as if the old order (Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea) had not been disrupted.
All the "important" matches were these four plus Liverpool. No mention of the likes of Spurs, Leicester or WHU.
I suspect the newspapers will be the same.
But is the old order still tenable? There is no proof that Guardioloa or Conte will adapt to thePL, or that Maureen is the right choice for the Mancs.
Everyone has much more money, and, because of Leicester's achievement last year, nobody is scared of the so-called big boys, all the "little" teams no longer "know their place".
It'll be the most exciting, open season ever and the "big boys" and their media supplicants won't have it all their own way. So, at the risk of making ourselves look stupid, anyone got any predictions?
