Football season 2016/17

Given that the fixtures are now out, I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread.
Congratulations Chelsea. Thoroughly deserved.
And seeing Conte's passion and joy on the touchline, I can't help but warm to the guy. Well done.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again
At least it wasn't the Spuds.
Well deserved Chelsea..Best team won this season.
Yes, well done Chelsea. They were magnificent when they played at St Mary's.
Mike, what's this stuff I've heard on Solent about Paul Cook and Wigan? Anything in it?
Great win for Arsenal at Stoke, C'mon The Hammers beat Liverpool today and you will open that top four door for usl. A possible top four place and an FA Cup win and people are flying banners over head asking the manager to be sacked!

Don't think so, Chris. He's on a club-paid-for holiday and has another year of his contract left. Maybe Wigan might offer more money but having just been relegated to League One and a smaller club than Pompey, it's hard to see what would be in it for Cook. If Eisner takes over, he'll also have a bigger budget to play with next season.
BTW I saw a report in my paper suggesting the Saints might be after the Hull manager, Silva. He's done well in difficult circumstances at Hull, though probably not enough to save them from the drop.

I just thought he'd be closer to home.
Re: Silva. I read that too. The Saints writer whom I work with suggests that were it to happen, the most boring manager in the Prem would be replaced with the second most boring manager in the Prem. I'm not talking about the football here.
Spurs 2 - 1 Man United
An acceptable result for our last game at the Lane.

But Chris, the real problem is the annual exodus.....I can see Van Dijk, Bertrand and Foster all going over the summer. Sure we'll get a lot of cash for them which we can then spend on er, ..........."standing still" next season.

...and a nice send off to the old Lane after the game. Pleased to see the likes of Chivers, Gilzen, England, and Jennings there. Pity Gazza wasn't.

I can see them going too. I'd like us to hang on to Romeu and Davis. Long wants out. J-Rod too. It's looking very much like mid table mediocrity once again, and that's before this season's even ended.
Where is the chairman in all this? The CEO sacked etc., potential Chinese takeover by someone not, allegedly, a fit and proper person. We hear nothing. A shitshow behind the scenes. And on the field, grindingly boring footbul.

Just a bit of a reality check, Chris/Suzy W. The vast majority of footie fans can only dream of mid-table mediocrity in the PL! You've got a great club, stadium and a youth development system that seems to produce an endless stream of talent, generating tens of millions for the club every season.
Mike
Yes Mike, I can see how it must look. All I can say is that reality is relative.
Saints' recent past has featured Koeman, Pochettino, Mane, Lallana, (Bale*, Walcott*) Wanyama, Alderweireld, Clyne and Pellè. If nothing else, games were exciting. Hell, they were even entertaining.
Ungrateful whinge over from me. (for this season).
* Okay, a bit further back in time but you get it.
I'm worried about beating Watford tonight.

Not to be mean, but the former did not happen, and the latter will be a big challenge.
LFC played very well yesterday, and looked like they really want a top four finish. Of course, given their record against bottom half teams, a win versus Middlesbrough next week is not a certainty.
As far as the FA Cup, I hope for a good match. But if Arsenal is out of the top four by then, I think Chelsea will play harder to win their second title of the season.
I admire Wenger's record, but don't most supporters sense it is time for a change? I suspect Arsenal will attract better signings (or lose fewer key players) in the off season if he retires, but I could be wrong.

Yes you would be right in thinking you are wrong, as an Arsenal supporter I would not be against Wenger leaving if the time was right and a suitable replacement found but I do not think Wenger will leave this season.

, but I thought that having two "Christopher M"s on the forum would be confusing. I used to be "ChrisM" on a number of forums, but we were hacked a couple of years ago so all changed.
The name derives from "Syltonia Honkong Suzy Wong" who was our much loved (and much missed) chocolate tortie Burmese cat.
I really should change it.
But back to the footy,......
and another penalty miss, but I'll take a point, if it helps us finish above the Cherries

Agree. Gazza was the "one" I wanted to see there.

Bloody hell, it appears Suzy is a Christopher!
I can just about forgive the penalty miss on the basis that at least Saints looked like they wanted to score this evening. Man U probably more concentrated on Ajax
Now I read that Puel wants them practising penalties before the next game on Sunday, which happens to be the last game of the season. Nice one Claude!
Fellaini was magnificent tonight I thought, just heading everything away.
Chris Dolan, were you there?
Christopher_M posted:Bloody hell, it appears Suzy is a Christopher!
Yeah, I blame the parents.........
^ Um, so what did you make of the game?
Leicester 1 - Spurs 6
That doesn't look like going "Spursie" to me...
steve
Listening to the radio when these fixtures came out, it was interesting that all the pundits were blithely carrying on as if the old order (Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea) had not been disrupted.
All the "important" matches were these four plus Liverpool. No mention of the likes of Spurs, Leicester or WHU.
I suspect the newspapers will be the same.
But is the old order still tenable? There is no proof that Guardioloa or Conte will adapt to thePL, or that Maureen is the right choice for the Mancs.
Everyone has much more money, and, because of Leicester's achievement last year, nobody is scared of the so-called big boys, all the "little" teams no longer "know their place".
It'll be the most exciting, open season ever and the "big boys" and their media supplicants won't have it all their own way. So, at the risk of making ourselves look stupid, anyone got any predictions?
