Football season 2016/17

Posted by: Kevin-W on 15 June 2016

Given that the fixtures are now out, I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread.

Listening to the radio when these fixtures came out, it was interesting that all the pundits were blithely carrying on as if the old order (Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea) had not been disrupted.

All the "important" matches were these four plus Liverpool. No mention of the likes of Spurs, Leicester or WHU.

I suspect the newspapers will be the same.

But is the old order still tenable? There is no proof that Guardioloa or Conte will adapt to thePL, or that Maureen is the right choice for the Mancs.

Everyone has much more money, and, because of Leicester's achievement last year, nobody is scared of the so-called big boys, all the "little" teams no longer "know their place".

It'll be the most exciting, open season ever and the "big boys" and their media supplicants won't have it all their own way. So, at the risk of making ourselves look stupid, anyone got any predictions?

PP, if we look at the last 15 games for each of the top sides (offering a maximum of 45 league points), the teams got :

Chelsea 34 points, Spurs 37 points, Man. City 24 points, Liverpool 28 points, Arrr..... 25 points, Man. U. 25 points.

Spurs have actually won 11 out of the last 12 league games. So, who exactly were the bottlers ?

Of course, the jealous and the worried will spout off.

I just think it's an actual pleasure to watch Spurs play such beautiful football too  How the game should be played. Trophies will come in the not too distant future.

Oh and add :

Second highest goalscorers in the league (just 1 behind Chelsea).

Conceded the least goals in the league.

Harry will be crowned with the Golden Boot (not literally I hope).

Dele is Young Player of Year.

Youngest team in the league (average age).

Core of exciting young English lads - all English fans must be happy about that.

....... the future is white...................

My hope is that he won't. There has to be some integrity in football somewhere.

MoPo was magnificent at Saints with the introduction of the high pressing game.

And Spuds fans can't understand why the rest of London (and, I wouldn't doubt, the rest of the country too) regards them as arrogant and deluded?

Did you see that they dug up the pitch at White Hart Lane with a big JCB after the United game, I don't think that they found any throphies though

How about another hat trick from Harry in Spurs' 7-1 drubbing of Hull today?

steve

PS Apologies to Hull City fans for any offence caused.

What's the point of John Terry stopping the game after 26 minutes and having a guard of honour to say goodbye to his adoring fans only to reappear an hour or so later to wander around with a microphone making speeches and crying.  Great player and Chelsea Leg end - yes but PITA too.  Heaven knows what he'll do if they win the cup.

Once it was sport, the eleven men in blue versus the other eleven. Now it's showbiz.

However realistically if Spurs are to win anything next season they need to strenghen the squad to give more depth to the squad.  Ideally Spurs needs an effective Team A and Team B to ride any periods of injuries.  I would love if Spurs can get someone like Lewandowski so we have two effective strikers for each team (Kane & Lewandowski) but unfortunately I read he is tied up by contract with Bayern until 2021..!

And they are going to need to overcome the stuttering when they play their home game at Wembley next season.
