Football season 2016/17

Given that the fixtures are now out, I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread.

Listening to the radio when these fixtures came out, it was interesting that all the pundits were blithely carrying on as if the old order (Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea) had not been disrupted.

All the "important" matches were these four plus Liverpool. No mention of the likes of Spurs, Leicester or WHU.

I suspect the newspapers will be the same.

But is the old order still tenable? There is no proof that Guardioloa or Conte will adapt to thePL, or that Maureen is the right choice for the Mancs.

Everyone has much more money, and, because of Leicester's achievement last year, nobody is scared of the so-called big boys, all the "little" teams no longer "know their place".

It'll be the most exciting, open season ever and the "big boys" and their media supplicants won't have it all their own way. So, at the risk of making ourselves look stupid, anyone got any predictions?

And only 5 weeks to the new season now.

Shaping up to be an interesting one again.

I guess as his lot are Premier League champions we should expect JamieWednesday to start the new 207/18 footie thread.

I suppose so - but we did have a European trophy winning team

Manchester United have apparently agreed a fee of around £75m with Everton for striker Romelu Lukaku - senior club sources have told the BBC. How good is that?

Lukaku is a good player, but £75m? Goodness me. The football world seems to have mad.

Seems like a bargain to me - put me down for two shirts

That's the sort of money I'd like to see Virgil van Dijk go for.

From BBC site, Everton have signed Rooney.

I think the lack of a fee asked by Man Utd shows good spirit in the mad world that is football.

Or you could look at it another way. Man U will save more than £10 million in wages per season, for a player that probably wouldn't get much playing time.

Rooney is well past his best.  Perhaps 'going home' will provide a nice conclusion to his career.

Rooney might be past his best but he's still a very good player. Maybe he can play instead of Barkley??? Can pass to his own players, keeps the ball and can take a free kick.

Now if only we can sign Bale, Ronaldo and Messi......................
