Football season 2016/17

Given that the fixtures are now out, I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread.
Upton Park? Where's that then?
Oh, you mean West Ham's old ground before the club decided to abandon their '...proper working class area and supporters...' and upsticks to a different part of London (allegedly) financed by numerous 'gifts' and goodwill, not least of which from the British taxpayer.
I suspect you'll find there's an awful lot of 'working class' Chelsea supporters across South West London and Surrey.
As for Kings Road, it is a very long piece of real estate and over the last hundred years or so of Chelsea it has seen a variety of residents, from the Territorial Army to the Thatchers, Rsoles to Our Price. Sure, in its time I remember the occasional wine bar would open and close. And cafes. And pubs. It has its fair share of coffee peddlers too.
Most of the wine bars have gone now as the London public realised they weren't all that frankly and were a huge rip off by and large. So the owners of all those establishments had to move on and find a new set of dumber, lcd types to sell to. I believe they're very popular in Manchester now.

LCD. Lowest common denominator
Wow!

Don't know if we have any Celtic fans on here but having just about scrambled though the qualifying stages of the Champions League, they've found themselves in a hell of a group. In contrast I suspect the Foxes are quite pleased with their draw and have a good chance of qualifying of the knock-out stage.
When Henrikh Mkhitaryan replaced Anthony Martial yesterday you could hear the United away fans respond with a song for him to the tune of 'Englishman in New York'.
Later there was a song for Marcus Rashford to the tune of Sloop John B expressing the view that he plays on either flank and makes Messi look faecal
Don't you just love a Fergie time winner for Man United
I'm in The USA at the moment and it is was nice to see the New York mayor declare yesterday as Frank Lampard day.
I kid you not!
He seems very happy here, scoring goals, convinced fans of his talents, earning $6M a year...
Nice.
In many ways another typical England performance eg laboured, lacking pace and invention in the final third and so on. But, hey, nicking it at the death might suggest Big Sam has something that many previous England bosses have not: he's a lucky manager. To be honest, I'd take that at the moment.
I think we will qualify - but no hopes of anything beyond that
Still waiting for Claud Puel's Diamonds are Forever formation to come good. Saints at the Emirates this afternoon, eeek!
Apparently, there's a game in Manchester too.

Was impressed by Liverpool's performance yesterday, especially how quickly they were able to counterattack. Lucas's lapse of concentration was unfortunate, but overall, it was a better defensive effort. Mane is a fine addition. Could he be the league's fastest player?

Who do you play for?
Contender for most used phrase this season - I nominate "Costa, who might earlier have been sent off, scored a late.........."

Saints fans thought so too. But only for one game in five ;-)

With apologies to the Sunderland fans on here but having watched on Sky Everton's comprehensive dismantling of them at the Stadium of Light this evening I think they are in for a very long and hard season. The Toffees on the other hand looked impressive.

They did once they took Ross Barkley off.
Very impressed with Idrissa Gueye, I wasn't overly enthusiastic when I heard Everton had signed a Villa defensive midfielder.
But how wrong I was, he has it all, anticipation, balance, comes away with the ball, able to sees a pass and able to make a pass.
Claude Puel's first managerial win as Saints beat Swansea, 1-0 at home. A huge sigh of relief from me that Charlie Austin's strike was enough, in an otherwise lacklustre game.
Not to worry though, tomorrow's papers will all be about Man U.

As I feared yesterday, we're now in the bottom three; however, to look on the bright side, at least we're not bottom, as would have happened had Sunderland and Stoke won...
Two teams that have not had the greatest of starts meet this coming Sunday then, Kevin....
C.
Indeed Chris. Given our defensive frailties, I think Saints will take that one...
Maybe Moriniho has been found out and he's more the average one.I do hope he weaves his special magic on United just like he did on Chelski.
Went to City - Bournemouth Saturday and it was a joy to watch the way Peps got them playing.I really can't see to many games like last season with Pellagrini when we looked average.Thats all out the window now.I can see why Toure has been dropped he's just to slow with the new high octane football he's got them playing.Exciting times ahead.
Wasn't at the London Stadium for Saints' 3-0 win. Can't comment on what I didn't see but did enjoy hearing Chris Sutton on R5 Live say. ' [Saints' keeper] Fraser Forster has had so little to do, he can get straight on the coach without a shower'.

Yes, Chris. I watched most of the game on Sky and then listened to the last 20 mins on R5 while walking the dog. The Hammers looked a pale imitation of the force they presented last season and the Saints thoroughly deserved their victory.
As well as the comment by the R5 team about the unemployed Forster, I was also struck by their views on the new stadium. They were complaining that they couldn't see the fifth official's board because they were so far back from the cation. They also said they thought the crowd in the third tier were silent, bemoaning the lack of atmosphere.
I guess Kevin-W would have been at the game and I'd be interested in his views.

Big Sam resigns before he is sacked, who next ?

Mega bucks = Mega corruption. Is been a multi millionaire not enough nowadays without trying to syphon off more.
Listening to the radio when these fixtures came out, it was interesting that all the pundits were blithely carrying on as if the old order (Man U, City, Arsenal, Chelsea) had not been disrupted.
All the "important" matches were these four plus Liverpool. No mention of the likes of Spurs, Leicester or WHU.
I suspect the newspapers will be the same.
But is the old order still tenable? There is no proof that Guardioloa or Conte will adapt to thePL, or that Maureen is the right choice for the Mancs.
Everyone has much more money, and, because of Leicester's achievement last year, nobody is scared of the so-called big boys, all the "little" teams no longer "know their place".
It'll be the most exciting, open season ever and the "big boys" and their media supplicants won't have it all their own way. So, at the risk of making ourselves look stupid, anyone got any predictions?
