And I'm more nostalgic than I though I would be now the time has come to throw these out.

Strange sensation, something I remember as once being shiny and modern now so obsolete, started taping the Top 20 on cassette circa 1976, all the "home taping is killing music " cassettes during my teens, to the collections used to woo and impress and then for car journies as the kids sang along. And then in 2003 I bought an iPod, which I still have but that is looking a bit antique roadshow itself now.

Time for a stout.

A gorgeous 1970s Marantz 5520 cassette deck. Looks to die for, but was it any good? Anyone hear, have or use one?

Was TDK SA tapes for me. Ordering mail order - back in the days when 'please allow 28 days for delivery' meant at least 28 days of waiting to be able to tape friends albums on my Amstrad 7050 I think it was. Noticed a place on Internet hiring this machine out for £40 a week! Didn't think they would have survived so long!

In certain fields, electronica/experimental music especially, there has been a massive upsurge of interest in the cassette. Go to an online outlet like Bleep and you'll find hundreds of tapes, mostly by obscure artists, and often created in very small runs. But it's a thriving underground scene. As soon as I have a bit of spare moolah I'm going to dive in...

One interesting label is Dream, which runs off its tapes (usually in limited editions of 100) in real time on Nak decks. Brasil World Cup 2034 are one of their artists:

I named one of my mixtapes 'Souled Out' (Maxell XL II circa 1982)

c'mon time to admit yours

Excellent. One of my favourites; "Mixie Rabbit" - thanks Amanda..

I made one for a former girlfriend (another Amanda) - "Planet of the Tapes".... and its follow-up, "Return to the Planet of the Tapes".

Also the "Mighty Reel" series and "Hubs and Hisses".

And of course there was the legendary "Bella's Generic 1987 Mixtape Vol. 23,653".

Kev,

My favourite MiX tape name was from a friend who is just as passionate about music as me,probably more.

He named it Play it like you mean it - Music to touch your mind body and soul.loved that name.

I saw that Marantz cassette deck at the Hi Fi Wigwham show at Scalford Hall this year.Sounded ok with a matching Marantz amp.  Cheers Ian
