Stacking sequence

Posted by: Adam Zielinski on 16 June 2016

Dear Forumites

For space saving reasons I need to stack my main system on one rack. Current sequence is (from top to bottom):
NDS > 252 > 555PSDR > SCDR > 250DR

This causes one 'problem': 252 burndy practically lies on the floor, which is far from ideal.

I was thinking of an alternative (swapping 555PS and SuperCap around).
NDS > 252 > SCDR > 555PSDR > 250DR

Any views, suggestions are greatly welcome.

Thank you,
Adam

PS. Unfortunately I have not yet worked out how to 'Fraim' this system, as it sits next to a Yamaha AV pre-power (which is too deep for Fraim).

Adam,

I understand the 'best' is to get the Pre Amp PSU's as low as possible - and get the Pre Amp as high as possible.

So for you, the SC should go at the bottom - SC- 555PS-250-252-NDS.

I would put the components with highest heat generation at the top

I would separate the 252 as far as possible from the big traffo magnetic fields in all the PSU's & 250.   I would guess the NDS is probably less sensitive.    So how about 252 on top, then NDS, followed by 555, SC & 250 in whatever order fits best for IC connection routing.

Thank you Gents!

The consensus at the moment is that the pre-amp should go on top and trafo-heavy components at the bottom.
I think swapping 252 and NDS should be feasible - the SC burndy will lift up and NDS burndies are so stiff, I can shape them to avoid coming into contact with the rack or a wall.

@ Madscientist: the 'only' component which generates heat in my system is the NDS. Even NAP 250 runs cool....

I was at my dealer yesterday discussing the installation of my new kit which should be arriving shortly. The rack is a Double Width Quadrasphire they suggeted the 252 and NDX should go on the top shelf the Supercap and 250 as low as possible away from the 252 and NDX.

Oner further suggestion was to use a Bronze upgrade on the top shelf as the 252 and NDX respond to better isolation.

I have a similar system stacked on Fraimlite/Fraim (top shelf) in the following order (top to bottom) NDS, 252, SCDR, 250DR, PS555DR.

This allows for better dressing of the burndies between the PS55DR and the NDS.

The most important thing is to get the unpowered bits away from those with transformers. I would add an extra level to the stand beneath the NDS and 252, and leave it empty. Much better is two racks - is this really, really, not possible?

HH - nothing is impossible. This is just a temporary fix untill I get my head around how to structure the rack (this is the big one, with a centre speaker, in my profile pics).

I agree Adam. I too have been advised by the dealer and by Naim folk, that the SC goes at the bottom. Your suggestion is exactly right.

Fantastic - thank you all for your inputs.

Will get to work over the weekend.
