Qute question

Posted by: True Blue on 07 July 2011

Hi all,  I know the Qute will not (because of Apple) stream ALAC, but it can however do this from its front USB port.  My question is can it do it from a mains powered USB Hard drive connected via its front port?

I wouldn't have thought so, because the reason it can do it from iPod connected via USB is because the iPod is decoding alac to PCM and just sending PCM to the 'qute.

Thankyou.  Oh well onto other ideas then.

EyeConnect (free UPNP server for Mac) will happily transcode ALC to WAV, allowing you to maintain a library of ALCs that you can play back on Mac or Uniti/Qute/NDX.

I can play ALAC through my Qute - I use an Apple Mac connected through a Musical Fidelity V-Link to the Qute's optical in as my office system. Sounds superb to me. My files are in AIFF for the most part and those play this way too. In fact almost anything the computer can render should play. A Sonus player will also play ALAC through the Qute. The iPod through the USB works the same way as my set-up so anything it can play would play through the UQ.

All the best, Guy
