Do you turn on or off?

Posted by: Steve GTX on 22 June 2016

I'm just about to take a trip to France..... before the borders close and my supply of red wine dries up.

I'm going to be away for two weeks (so if you are going to burgle my place, now is a good time to do it!) but should I leave all my audio kit turned on or off?

Generally, SWIMBO unplugs everything before we go away.

. It is very worrying when you are away from home and you hear that your area is having an electrical storm and you have left your music system on

For your peace of mind turn your it off, pull out the plugs from the mains and don,t forget your t.v. aerial.

Sorry if grandma and sucking eggs come to mind but better safe than sorry.

Tony.

And don't forget your phone line too, especially if you have a wired Ethernet network connected to it, which could make a router, streamer, NAS etc. vulnerable.

+1

I always turn off when I can not use it for a few days even If I do not go away from home and even if outside the sun is shining. I agree with tonym, 30/45 minute warm up and the game is done.

And, in this regard I want to launch a provocation: if what tony says is true, and I'm sure in my experience, so what sense does this attitude of being afraid to turn it off? A refrigerator should be switched on 24 hours 7 days a week because it has to keep fresh the food, so it is justified.

Great thread! To the comments by Mike and Huge I'd add:

It's not just common sense, it's the law

A law lightning has a habit of disobeying. So definitely power off AND unplugged.

Better yet, boxed up and stacked by the front door (for those with nefarious intentions).

Joe, lightning still obeys that law, it just cheats by lowering the R term!
