My NAC52 only likes CD's

Posted by: Premmyboy on 29 June 2016

I had recently powered down my hifi for a few days and since powering up again my nac52 keeps switching whatever input I select to CD input. Sometimes this happens within seconds sometimes it can take minutes.

I have tried powering down disconnecting all cables and then powering up again but it still happens. Has anybody else experienced anything like this with any of their Naim preamps?

I am guessing I am going to have to send the unit to Naim to be looked at but I thought it might be worth asking here in case anyone has experienced anything similar.

Thanks Prem.

Do you have Auto Input Switching engaged? Having said that, I can't recall whether the NAC52 ever had this facility - I certainly never used it when I had a 52.

Otherwise, check for a sticky source selection button on the NAC52.  And also check for a remote control stuck down a chair or sofa possibly with the CD source selection button being pressed.

remote control has stuck button?

Thanks for the replies. I should have said I am not using a remote control. It does not have any batteries in it. Auto input switching engaged? I'm not sure.  I don't think so. Everything had been working fine for a couple of months. This just started to happen yesterdAy. No matter which input button I press it eventually reverts to cd input usually within a couple of minutes.

Very strange. The Cd input button does not seem to be stuck.

Faulty optocoupler perhaps?  Probably worth running the problem past Naim's service dept. and take it from there.

Thanks Richard for your help. I will ask Naim service department as you suggest.
